New here! Will my curls ever come back?

Hello! I'm new here, I found this site after being at total war with my hair and hating it so much that I was seriously considering it cutting it short.

I have been low/no-poo for years, at first it was great then I started neglecting my hair for various reasons and it got to the point where recently it has been so dry that it would get all matted if I went a couple of days with no brushing, so I would brush at least once a day, if not more. Needless to say my hair became awfully frizzy and curly no more, just some messy waves.

I tried the CG method yesterday and had my first good hair day in months (yeppee!), so much softer and at last it had some loose curls, but nothing like they used to be years ago. My question is, with less brushing and more love, will my hair get curlier? To give you an idea, it used to be type 2c, now it's more 2a/2b.

Thanks :)

I'm glad you're having good luck with CG! YAY :D

You did only start it yesterday though, so don't get disheartened that it isn't like it used to be years ago. You have to give it time and be very patient.

Most people experience their hair getting curlier as they continue on with CG. You should check the before and after thread, it might give you some inspiration :):

Welcome! I am glad that after trying the CG Method yesterday, you were able to see progress to your curls. As, I do understand, as you have gone through challenges in getting your curls to look the way you want them to be. I would definitely continue on with the CG Method, and the products you are presently using as long as you continue to benefits to your hair.

Doing a lot of brushing is not good for anyone's hair. Since you have wavy hair, the use of a brush on your curls isn't what I would recommend. Your hair is too fine for such. Instead, it would be best to use either your fingers or a wide toothed comb to detangle your hair. And, if you do use a wide toothed comb, never use it to detangle your curls while they are in a dry state. You are to do so while your hair has conditioner in it, or on freshly cleansed, wet hair instead. As the less you disturb your curl pattern, the less frizz you will get. Also, try avoid playing at all with your hair throughout the day, as that can cause your hair to become undefined and frizzy. I'm sure you don't want that to happen.

To get better definition, you can try the scrunching method, when applying your styling product(s) to your hair. Or, you can try an ionic blowdryer (ionic blow dryers work better than regular ones because they are able to provide shine and work to look out frizz) with a diffuser attachment to get better definition and volume to your hair, after applying product to it.

I wish you much continued progress with your hair!

Thank you both :) Yesterday I only used the wooden brush when applying conditioner on little by little, and I was quite gentle with it, I will try to skip it altogether though.

I also read that it's best not to touch it at all when it's dry so I've been trying really hard not to, even though I feel like checking that it's still soft every 5 minutes!
