Styling my hair??

PrincessAtlantaPrincessAtlanta Posts: 3Registered Users
Hullo, I have 3c type curly kinky hair and honestly it makes me so self conscious. Ever since I was little I've worn my hair in a ponytail. I hate it so much. I see other girls at my school and I wish I could style my hair another way. I've searched online for years but all I ever see is either afros or straightened hair. I also hate wearing my hair down because after it dries, it gets very very poofy and tangled and i hate the feeling of it on my neck and and head in general. I have also gotten my hair straightened before but my father won't let me straighten it any longer because he doesn't want my hair being damaged. Honestly any kind of tips for preventing poofing or any type of hair styles would be so nice! I'm tired of my hair making me feel uncomfortable and ugly.

You have a great father though you won't realise that until you are older.

Anyway what do you use in your hair now? How often do you wash it? What do you use when you wash it? When do you comb it?

I wash my hair once or twice a week. When I wash it I usually use Kirk's bar soap but when I can persuade my dad to buy some I use Shea Moisture Shamoo and to style I use Shea Moisture smoothie for the top and Shea Moisture milk for the bottom of my hair. I comb it pretty much everyday after I shower.

Even I have the same hair type :D I used to comb my hair when I got out of the shower but that seemed to make it more frizzy and it was hard to detangle. So I started detangling while I'm in the shower (after applying conditioner). Its so much easier this way! You can try doing that.
Also, do you use a leave in? It will definitely help to stop your hair from frizzing up as it dries
Last but not the least, don't EVER hate your hair or think that its ugly.. There are SO many people out there who'd give anything to have beautiful natural hair like yours :)

Stop! This is exactly how I feel! The frustration and self consciousness is so real! Everything you said applies to me. What I do is twist my hair (when my hair is dry) leave it in for 1-2 days and then pull it out, its a beautiful style I love to do and my curls are always defined! You can do this on wet or dry hair. This style is what helped me when I first started, because it was so easy to do and I could wear it in so many ways! Up or down and people loved it and always complimented me! I hope this helps you. If you need any more tips or details I'm always here

    stay bliss.

I don't have hair quite that curly but my friend does and she does all kinds of cute braids on the front. Hers is even curlier than yours I'm sure. But I wouldn't worry about it. You'd be surprised at how many girls want your hair instead of the straight boring hair that they have. Go on YouTube and search hairstyles for naturally curly hair. I do that when I'm bored and I've found all kinds of cool styles.
