More curls or less as you turn silver?

I can't tell yet if my silver will be more curly or less curly than the dyed hair; what have others found?

I find no difference in the amount of curls or overall curliness. I do see such an improvement in texture. I always heard gray hair comes in coarser and as my hair is coarse anyway, I was not looking forward to that. But my gray is coming in more silky than my natural hair was. And a major improvement over the current dyed ends. Since snapping my avi pic, my bangs have grown in to be all gray/white and I can see they look thicker than they did when dyed so really looking forward to that for my overall ends.

Poo: Have to admit I have recently become a Wen convert. Love it. I have always had problems with my hair "hanging" right, curling uniformly and destorting the perimeter line. Wen makes it hang evenly.

I wondered the same for others. I had been dying my hair for 30 yrs so I had only a vague recollection of its texture, etc. I would say EVERYTHING is better about my hair now. It's shiny, it's bouncy, it's thicker (a bit). Given that I had some bald/thinning spots, I'm thrilled to see the healthy gray hair.

I will say I'm in my 40s with a full head of gray hair. I'll be interested to see how the condition of my hair changes decades from now.

I think my hair is losing curl now that it's gray. Maybe it's the haircut. The sides by my ears are real fluffy and undefined. The whole head seems more wavy and less curl. Can I get it back, do you think? I wonder if all my shampooing to get rid of the ashy, purple shampoo effects has done a number on my hair, too.

gray hair loses moisture more quickly, i need to seal every wash day so i don't get fluffy, cotton candy hair.

I think a lack of moisture was what was causing my frizz and lack of definition a few months ago. I tried a gentle moisture replenishing shampoo, I have to say without much hope, and it seems to have made a big difference.

Rbb, is there a sealant you can get at the drugstore? I assume shea butter is a sealant? I don't like the idea of oils on my hair, though, so I'm looking for something else.

my hair does not like oils, but it does like butters. the butter i am currently using and loving is spiral solutions emollience. however she closed her shop a year ago so when i finish my stash i'll be needing to find something else.

i've been looking around, etsy included, but nothing so far. the butter that i used before i discovered emollience and was not bad is jane carter nourish and shine. if i don't find anything i love before i run out of ss emollience i will go back to jane carter while i look around.

always start with a tiny amount, even wait a bit for your hair to absorb it before adding more.

you asked for a drugstore product. i used to buy jane carter with on aveyou.com or at wholefoods. i've also seen in health food stores. never looked so i don't know if any drugstores carry it. you can go on the jane carter website and look for retail locations.

I'm only about 10 percent gray at this point but what I've noticed is that while some of my gray strands are staying in their tight, grouped coil formation, several rebel strands are wavy in texture and are standing out. Seeing as my hair is short and I WNG exclusively I basically let them be but at one point I had a long one right in front that I had to snip because it was hanging on my forehead all by its lonesome.

The good news is that I seem to be on track towards having a glorious combination of my mother's silver hair and my father's white hair. :D

I am fully transitioned now and I find that my curls are about the same when in comes to curliness, but they seem much softer and fluffier. My scalp is much healthier and happier. The dryness and itchiness are a thing of the past now.

Myrna, I love your shade of silver and your curls.

I never dyed my hair so I can't compare that, but my grey hair is less curly than before it changed.
It used to be 3B with some 3C/4. Now it is about 50/50 3A 3B.

I'm seeing more of a frizz factor with the gray in certain areas of my head. Like along the hairline. Those hairs use to lay down smoothly but now they are constantly frizzy and stick out like a sore thumb among the non-gray hair which is NOT frizzy and makes my hairline look a hot mess. I'm not into slathering tons of gel along my hairline to get my edges "laid" and until the appearance of these frizzy grays it wasn't a big deal. But I have considered it more than once with the way my hair looks some days. :sad3:

    Hi Curl Friends!!!
Great Question. I always wondered what everyone elses experiences were with their grey hair. My grey curls are just as curly as when they were not grey.
Hair Type: 3B, (some 1C,2C and 3A), fine texture, balanced porosity, high elasticity= the shrinkage is real my sisters!
