What Would Happen...

What would happen if I put blue food coloring in a moisturizing, sulfate free and 'cone free shampoo and/or conditioner? The ingredients in the shampoos and conditioners designed for toning down brassiness or keeping out the yellow on platinum, silver, blonde or gray hair makes my toes curl. I just know it would turn my 4b/4a coils into a matted and dry mess. But isn't the blue in the shampoo and conditioner supposed to be what brightens the hair? Has anyone tried this or heard of anyone trying this? I have low porosity hair so I'm not really worried about the blue food coloring staining my gray a with a blue tinge because product normally has to sit on my head a long time before it absorbs. But seeing as commercial silver enhancing shampoos are rinsed right out and conditioners generally are only left on 5 minutes at most, I'm thinking if the blue is what brightens the hair, this is all I'll need and won't have to worry about staining. I hope I'm making sense. Just thinking out loud here. My gray is getting more and more numerous and I find myself becoming protective of it and wanting to make is "shine" so to speak...

This is a link to a video in which a lady uses blue food coloring to brighten her silver, natural hair. Hope this helps!

I also use the Ardell red/gold corrector drops in a ℅ wash product and like it. I also sometimes use a Roux Fanciful Ultra White Minx temporary rinse which I find tones my white new growth plus helps with frizz.

Poo: Have to admit I have recently become a Wen convert. Love it. I have always had problems with my hair "hanging" right, curling uniformly and destorting the perimeter line. Wen makes it hang evenly.

I've been intrigued by the Roux White Minx but afraid to try it. Would you mind sharing how you use it, how much product, how you mix it, how long you leave it in? Aslo, what happens to your darker hair when you apply the White Minx (my hair is salt/pepper naturally) Please don't hate me for asking so many questions!

I'm sorry, Spiralli, I am just now seeing your question. I use the Roux Fanciful ultra White Minx, sometimes White Minx, as it comes in a squirt tip bottle. I squirt it at the scalp line and just let it get on the length as it will. I put it on after no pooing or cowashing my hair, then follow the Roux rinse with gel and style my hair. It does not rub off on anything, pillowcase, collars of your shirt, etc but does wash out easily even if you cowash. HTH
