Keeping hair dry while swimming..

This isn't possible, is it? Has anyone, anywhere invented anything that will keep your hair dry while swimming?? Swim caps are just for keeping your hair out of your way and make you more streamlined, they're not supposed to keep your hair dry.

I've searched and searched and NOTHING.

I want a miracle product.
Is there one?

I've had swim caps that kept my hair dry. Are you talking about the thick rubber ones? They work pretty well for me (except sometimes along the hairline); I just hate the way they look on me! I wore one in public ONCE--at the gym at an off hour--and my straight-haired friend never let me forget it!

I've had all kinds...I've even worn a super tight, slim one under a thick rubber one..and no good.

    something like this, maybe..

although it's not too terribly practical, I suppose.

BINGO! You found the answer! And, I thought I was creating attention! LOL.

Have you tried pulling your hair into a ponytail before you put the cap on?

yes, I've done everything short of running a line of silicone caulking along the outside of my swim cap. which I actually thought about doing, once.

    blah.
    oh well.

Cut off your hair, and keep it in a baggie at home!

You can only keep your hair dry while swimming if you are doing the old-lady-breaststroke (which is a fake stroke, not a real breaststroke). Otherwise, for real swimming, hair gets wet.

yeah, I know hair gets wet.
I was just wondering if anyone had any tricks/tips/new swim cap inventions. Some people get very creative, especially when it comes to their hair.

Nope...never found a trick that works to keep hair dry. I swim a LOT, and I've tried everything. I can keep it undamaged (by wetting it with clear water and conditioner first and then putting it in a swim cap), but I cannot keep it dry.

I even tried those neoprene ear sealing things that kids who get a lot of ear infections use under a swim cap...didn't work, water still seeps in.

    teehee!
I actually went to that site, I think last year and tried that and it didn't work. :( I swim everyday in the spring/summer, and I really hate to get my hair wet everyday. I always do the rinse/conditioner thing before I get in when I know I'm definitely going to get my hair wet.

ahh well. maybe someday, someone will come up with something.

thanks for the suggestions, though. :)

    hahahaha that is just beautiful!!!!!!!!!

If you put a little bit of conditioner on the hair that ends up getting wet, beforehand.....it'lll dry right in place without you having to style

Keep in mind that a lot of getting your hair wet is actually sweat -- you sweat quite a bit when you're swimming, since your body cannot cool itself off via traditional sweat evaporation methods...but, your body doesn't know this and just keeps on sweating! Your head is, of course, the only place this will be noticeable...

Great timing for me. I'm trying to swim more and bought the traditional swim cap...not good. Too difficult with my long hair and my hair got wet. I just ordered this one...wish me luck. I'm having a swim party/bbq on the 31st. Thanks for the website and welcome to NC!

in my pre-curly days, I used a combination of a..... headscarf.... Shower cap... and Swim cap. That worked pretty well. It's funny even thinking about having to go through all of that

I got my swim cap in and will be trying it out soon, so will let everyone know if it works. It says it's for long hair & extensions.
