How often do you co-wash?

Do most of you co-wash every day or every other day?

Funny... I was just about to post this exact thread! LOL

I'm sure this issue has been discussed on here previously at some point, but I don't think most folks here mind sharing again. :)

Here are the dates I've done a CO wash since I started:

    Feb 16
    Feb 22
    Feb 27
    Mar 4 (*)
    Mar 10

I've just been kinda doing them when it seems like I need to. This usually gives me one REALLY bad hair day, though - the last one before I CO wash! By the time half the day is gone, I realize I need one, and it's too late for my poor hair then.

I know in the book, Lorraine talks about CO washing every 10 days or so. I've been curious to find out how often folks here do it, too. I'm wondering if I shouldn't do one every 'x' days regardless - just to stay on a schedule. It might be better for my hair. ???

(*) this was an exfoliation w/brown sugar and conditioner, but I figure it counts as a CO wash because I did it the same way
I have very fine 3A hair!

I cowash once a week in the winter and twice a week in the summer. If you're new to CG, or you're currently shampooing frequently you will likely need to do it more frequently, at least in the beginning.

So what is do you do on days that you don't co-wash? Are you wetting your hair in the shower? I am kind of confused by what you should be doing when?

On the other days I condition. So I do everything but the actual scrubbing of the scalp.

CO wash = using conditioner and your fingertips to clean your scalp via massaging it

Every other day, I wet my hair then apply conditioner all over it (quite copiously), then rinse it almost all the way out. Sometimes I will do this at night and then just wet my hair the next morning with water then put in my gel and style it.

I have read the book but there is just so much to take in!! I thought that I was co-washing to much and I think I am right. But when I do co-wash I do it at night and let my hair air dry as much as possible. I put the pineapple on top of my head and than put a silk scarf around my head to help with frizz and tangles. That has been working out pretty well for me, except for my husband making fun of me every night!! In the morning I just don't know what to do with my hair cause it doesn't look that good. So I end up using a spray bottle filled with water and alittle bit of condish to wet my hair some. This has been working out good for me But I have been hearing of people having great second day hair and I just feel like I am missing something. I will just have to keep at it!!

I do it every 3 days or so, just because my bangs start looking oily.

I'm co-washing every day to every second day. I'm pretty new to it all though, and my scalp's still adjusting.

    It's a vast improvement on daily shampoo's though! 8)

If I use VO5 for a co-wash, I need to co-wash everyday. Using TJ Nourish or [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/DevaCurl-No-Poo-p-53.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=devacurl-devacurl-nopoo]Devacurl NoPoo[/buylink] I can go 5-6 days. In between, if I can't salvage my doo for second day hair, I water wash my scalp in the shower- just like co-washing but without condish.

If you can spritz with water & condish in the AM, that's second day hair to me! There aren't any hard & fast rules to CG- everyone is very different.

Once a week - alternating between Freeman's Papaya and Awapuhi condish, and the NG Awapuhi, which is what I use to condition. I condition 2-3 times a week, depending on how much I need it.

I'm still confused about the second, third, fourth day hair stuff, myself. Does that mean you don't thoroughly wet it at all? You just roll out of bed, spritz it a little, and it's good to go? Because I don't think my hair would EVER do that! Unless I wrapped it somehow during the night, but I don't see doing that.

I don't usually have very good luck with second day hair. Once in a while my hair will be okay on the second day, but even then I usually end up putting my hair up in a barrette or something.

On the days that I don't CO wash, I usually wet my hair completely in the shower and scrub my scalp without any condish. Then I'll use a rinse out and/or a leave-in if my hair needs it and style as usual. HTH!!

On 2nd day hair, I spritz my hair with lavender and jojoba water (a few drops of both oils to a bottle full of water, I just shake before I spray). I then scrunch and go... many curlies get 2nd (and 3rd!) day hair, but not everyone, so don't despair. Believe me, there are several curlies on here who can't get 2nd day hair! You're not alone.

I totally wet my hair every single day.
I co wash around 3 times a week. Wet hair, add conditioner, massage scalp, rinse, add gel, plop, diffuse or air dry.
On the other days I wet hair, add gel, plop, diffuse or air dry.

I've been on the CG routine for several weeks and I co-wash about once a week.
fine, wavy hair with lazy waves. Sometimes lanky spiral curls underneath when the weath is very humid. My waves are capricious like me! Presently using Burt's Bees condish, FOTE AVG with honey or Mop Top gel.

I've decided to try CO washing every Sunday and Wednesday for awhile to see how that works. I hate that last day of "waiting 'til it's time to wash" because my hair always looks terrible, so I figured twice a week won't be too bad.

I COwash about once a week and water rinse on the 4th day. All the other days are 2nd and 3rd day hair. On those days, I spritz with lavendar water and a lil spray gel, such as L'Oreal Tightly Wound.

Wow. I can't imagine. Do you do something with your hair when you sleep at night? If it weren't for that, I think I might be able to get 2nd/3rd day hair, but sleeping frizzes it up something fierce.

Well, when I am doing my full CG and not my modified one, I CO everyday. My scalp gets kinda gunky and greasy if I don't. I think it depends on the person and their hair and scalp type.

I have been co-washing for about 4-5 mos. now, and find this routine works best for me:

1st day: co-wash w/ suave or Vo5 condish, and use heavier conditioner after and rinse all of it out. I then apply all my styling products.

2nd day: refresh w/ water and scrunch in [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/DevaCurl-Set-it-Free-p-259.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=devacurl-set-it-free]Deva Set it free[/buylink] or a curl cream

3rd day: Refresh w/ water and spray gel. Usually put hair up or in a headband this day.

4th day: scrub scalp with water in shower and apply condish.

5th day: same as 2nd day

6th day: same as 3rd day

7th day: Either water rinse and apply condish, or co-wash, depending on how hair feels.

    repeat weekly

*I generally don't co-wash more than once a week, and I use a sulfate shampoo to clarify once to twice a month w/ a deep condish treatment.

I am able to get away w/ 2nd and 3rd day hair because i tend to use hard hold gels most of the time when styling.

What I use ofr second and thirs day hair s sleeping with my hair in a ponytail and on a satin pillowcase. What a huge difference the satin pillowcase makes. It basically eliminates second and third day frizzies.

I lo-wash or co-wash every day. My face is really oily, and the hair around my face is baby fine, so it soaks up all that oil, and my bangs do too. My scalp is a little on the oily side too. THough my hair is thick, it's mostly fine so it easily gets limp with dirt and oils. It must be cleansed every day. The funny thing is, if I don't clean it, it gets limp AND frizzy and dry looking. Really weird but that's how it is!

About three times a week depending on how dry my hair is, or if it is very humid out. When humid I leave some gel and condish in at all times.
