No Gel Cast & Much Poofiness

Hi,

Can anyone think of a reason I'm not getting a gel cast anymore?

Even though my hair feels dry, I thought it might be overconditioned so I started conditioning less and lo-pooing more but that hasn't worked.

My hair is just staying ridiculously poofy no matter how much gel I use.

If it helps, here's what I use mostly (not all a the same time!):

Tresemme Naturals conditioner, KCKT, KCCC, Ecostyler

Shampoo is British; the ingredients are: Aqua, Sodium lauryl sarcosinate, Sodium cocoamphoacetate, Cocamidopropyl betaine, Coco-glucoside, Glyceryl oleate, Glycol distearate, Glycerin Laureth-4 Hydroxypropyl oxidised starch PG Trimonium chloride, Starch Hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, Sodium chloride, Lactic acid, Sodium lactate, Urea, Parfum, Polyquaternium-72, Crithmum maritimum extract, Laminaria digitata extract, Chondrus crispus extract, PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate, Citrus aurantium amara (Bitter orange) leaf oil, Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) leaf oil, Citrus aurantifolia (Lime) oil, Pelargonium graveolens (Geranium) oil, Ferula galbaniflua (Galbanum) oil, Rosa damascena (Rose) flower oil, Sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, Ascorbic acid, Potassium sorbate, Citric acid Benzyl salicylate, Linalool, Butylphenyl, methylpropional

Am I doing something blatantly wrong? :confused3:

Has your humidity and dew point changed or been fluctuating lately? The issue you describe makes me think humidity might be to blame.

If your hair feels dry, it's definitely not overconditioned. Sounds like a combination of weather and overly dry hair.

How are you with protein? I would lay off Ecostyler a bit and see if the protein might be contributing as well.

I have suspected it might be protein, but I don't really know how to avoid it. Will have a look for threads about it.

I literally know nothing about humidity. Just googled and it is 77% in my area today, what can I do knowing that?

Humidity doesn't really tell us much. Dew point is a much better predictor of hair behaviour. Dew points of 4.4 - 15.5ºC are ideal, and respond well to a balanced approach with conditioner and gel. Curly hair generally needs more conditioner in lower dew points; and more gel in higher dew points.

Dewpoint is 10 so I'm not sure it's that.

    I'm so confused :dontknow:

You hair may need some hydration as well. I never get a gel cast but I get better hold when my hair is hydrated.

Well a dew point of 10 °C would be in the ideal range, so it sounds like we can rule that out.

Use more conditioner! Go back to low-pooing less and leave in more conditioner. If your hair is dry, you need to address that. You may or may not need more gel too but start with more conditioner first and go from there.
