Natural hair care help

Blissfully3CBlissfully3C Posts: 25Registered Users
I've always had my hair natural, but wasn't aware of how to care for it. Now that I know my hair type (3c), I want to start the proper care for healthier hair. My hair is bra strap length and extremely dry, also I have a lot of split ends; which I'm not sure why considering I rarely use heat. Please help! I would appreciate tips on daily routines, products, how to grow it longer etc. Thank you, stay bliss.

Split ends don't always come from heat- I've had them from rough/too much manipulation and waiting too long between trims.

For dryness make sure you use moisturizing products with fatty alcohols or humectants depending on what your hair properties are. Possibly some oils if you need to seal your cuticles or for extra lubrication. Properties like porosity and texture can be more important than curl type.

I get split ends from waiting too long for a trim or rough housing with my hair.

So would you recommend I trim the ends? I've had bad experience where I did and my hair stopped growing, I'm scared for the same to happen. I have a high density and normal porosity.. In my daily routine I spray with water and seal with coconut oil and castor oil which my hair loves, but I want to switch up. Also, considering trying the no poo solution. Any tips on that?

    Stay bliss.

How often would you recommend a trim?

    I get a trim every 3-4 months.

Blissfully3c it depends on trims. I don't have a schedule- just when they feel rough or I shed more than normal or tangle more than normal. I've been following the curly girl method since november- before that I was doing them every 3-4 months which ended up being too long. After that and up until February I trimmed monthly but the time between is increasing now. I have gotten comfortable enough now to just trim where my hair needs it.
