Question(s) about SMasters technique.

MyrnaMyrna Posts: 2,332Registered Users Curl Neophyte
I tried it today, 2nd time. Again: good curls but they are somewhat "poufy" and I have some frizz. I used CK. I dont have KCCC and hesitate to buy it right now. Anyhow: can my Curlfriends suggest how I might eliminate the frizz and get more defined curls? I like this technique because it is simple, straightforward and fast.

Would you be willing to try with more of a gel or jelly type product, something that forms a bit of crunch? I know at some point in the original threat she explains that it works well for her when the product added midway through diffusing is one that's able to form a gel cast. I'm not overly familiar with curl keeper, but I think it's a less crunchy product is it not?

Yes, that is a good idea..I am just wondering if I need to use 2 different products..any thoughts?

Does the ck mix well with other products? If so, and you like it in particular, you could combine some with a gel in your hands and then scrunch them in. Today when my hair was about fifty percent dry, I combined some kccc and brhg in my hands, scrunched them in, and diffused some more. I think this would work just as well with two other products as long as they work well together.

I dont know if it mixes with other products well, because I tend to use only one styling product...too many products, too many potential problems...but I can try.

Hmm, I do know what you mean. Perhaps you should try the technique with just one product each time, then you can decide what circumstances it works under.

Thats what I did today and wound up with major frizz... with Curl Keeper..

Then perhaps try next time with just a gel instead.

Yah, that is my plan...I actually have a small sample of KCCC but it sounds like a difficult product to get the hang of, and I would not know what to layer it over for the Smasters technique. And, I tried t he technique once before, with mousse, and also got frizz...dont know why. I think maybe my hair does not like high heat from the dryer.

For what it's worth, I use medium heat and low speed. Kccc by itself is enough hold for some people, a lot of others use a gel over it. I use either set me up gel or brhg over the kccc. I think of the kccc as providing definition, and the gel as providing hold.

SereneCurls, because it is recognized here as a gel that is somewhat "difficult" or "tempermantal", I decided to try it over a gelly (As I am) that I use often and like. I used the KCCC very sparingly. I would not know where to begin to use it by itself, all over my head. For now, Ill stick with what I did today. Still could use more volume at the crown...:help:

As long as you find what works best for you, that's all that matters. :) Hmmm, clipping didn't give you enough volume? Perhaps diffusing upside down, or waiting till the hair's dry and gently inserting your fingers under the hair at the crown to sort of loosen and lift it a bit?
