Question - it has the same exact ingredients as KCCC. What's the difference?
    2c-3a - med-coarse - normal-high porosity - high density
    :bunny:
NP/LP: CJ Daily Fix, KMF Whenever / Giovanni TTTT
RO/LI: Aussie Moist, CJ Argan & Olive Oil, Hask Keratin Protein
DC/PROTEIN: KC Stellar Strands / CNPF
    STYLER: CJ Curl Queen
    COLOR: henna, amla & indigo
    :thumbdown:: glycerin in high/low dews, polyquat-10 & 11, parabens

    Really? Interesting.

I think it cut my frizz and held better than KCCC, but I only had a sample of UFDCM. I'm going to do some tests when the full size bottle arrives and I will report back. :albino: <-- This makes me laugh, so I'm adding it.

Looks like they have added vegetable glycerine to the ingredients - it is second on the full ingredients list at the UF website. They just ruined it for me.

    2c/3a - fine - medium porosity & density

asugirl, thanks for informing us. Does vegetable glycerin act the same way as glycerin?

sixelamy, sorry, I'm not going to be of any help :D
I use UFDCM every wash day and on both 2nd and 3rd day hair. I'm not exactly sure why it works better for me than KCCC. Maybe my hair is in better shape now or maybe my technique has changed? Who knows. All I know is that when I started using UF's, I started getting frequent hair compliments, lol.

I should actually go and get some KCCC and try it out again. It would definitely be more convenient as I can get it locally.

i believe they act the same as humectants. it might be in an article on here a few years back.
wow, my hair had a tough time with the agave in low dews, now with glycerin... there were a few days last summer that i had incredible days with it, but for the most part it makes my hair a mess. i've tried it alone, with a light leave in, a heavier leave in, sealing, not sealing......
there are too many other products with glycerin that mly hair loves and are easier to use. i was disappointed in ufdcm.

    3a, some 2c & 3b, medium texture, porosity normal, low elasticity :-(

Hmm interesting this one works better. Some ingredients are changed in the order, but they are pretty much exactly the same. I've been wanting to try this for so long, but then if I'm using KCCC and having luck, just wondered if there was a difference and worth trying this. But if there's glycerin in it now, nevermind. My hair loves it in summer, but not right now.

I live in Louisiana, so it's pretty much going to be summer in like 2 weeks.

I'll give it a try when it arrives, but if my hair dislikes it, I'll shelve it until the heat and humidity return.

Not sure why they added glycerin & protein, they ruined a perfect product
  • sheilacurlsheilacurl Posts: 1,240Registered Users Curl Neophyte
^ Yeah! Why didn't they create a new product with those additives instead of ruining a product that many truly love? I really wonder what their reasons were.

I hate to sound cynical, but vegetable glycerin is a pretty inexpensive ingredient - almost sounds like filler to me. And for it to now be the second ingredient when it wasn't even in the formulation before......

My hair doesnt mind glycerin (so far, lol) and im curious as to how my hair will like the new formula so I ordered two bottles because they had free shipping on orders with a base price of $50. They are currently having a 10% off sale with no code needed which I combined with a 10% off coupon code that I got from youtube. So I ended up paying 40 dollars for two bottles with free shipping so it wasn't too terrible. If it doesn't work for me, then look out for me in a month or two on the swap board! Either way I will try to post some pics.

Wow, that's a really good deal. I would stock up right now too if only they still had the original formula that I adore. I'm pouting now, lol.

I don't really understand product reformulations. Why not just add a new product that's similar, but different to their line? :angry7: It was a good formula, nothing wrong with it.

Some reformulations are done due to changes in regulations in a country the manufacturer sells to. It's often cheaper to have one factory to make the product and ship it around the world than to have multiple factories in different countries if you are selling a niche product like this.

Other changes are due to a base ingredient increasing in price so in decreasing that one ingredient in the product means changing the entire product.

Has anyone contacted UFD to ask why the formula changed?

I liked the product, but the scent was too strong for me. I wish the change just included making it unscented.

I decided to try the formula, since the bottles were in transit before i realized the formula is now different. It was ok...I thought my hair would freak out since it hates protein. Thankfully that did not happen. I have to use it a few more times to see if I get consistent results. I used Shescentit avocado condish as a leave in underneath. Not too much crunch, not as much elongation as with the previous formula but still some present. It is definitely not the WOW the previous formula was for me...I will now hunt for a glycerin free gel:pale:
    Hair type-BC: 2/2011-mix of kinks+ coils
Wash-Bobeam Poo bars, As I Am Cleansing Pudding and Coconut Cowash cleansing condish
LI/RO-Curl Junkie rehab, Shescentit Avocado condish, Oyin Hair dew
DT-KBB Luscious Locks, Curl Junkie ANYthing, Shescentit Avocado condish
Style- UFD, Camille Rose, Hello Curly, Kinky Curly
Sealant- Jamaican Black Castor and Avocado oils, Qhemet Biologics Honey & Olive Hydrating Balm
Will try any CG product at least once.

It's just such a shame because SO MANY hair products have glycerin. Like, so many.

It was nice that this was one that did not have it. Now they added it as the second ingredient. I'm not sure then what the difference would be between UFD and every other glycerin-filled gel/gelly... that I can probably get much easier and for cheaper.

i agree. and, i there are many products with glycerin that i already love and find easy to use in the mid-high dew points.
honestly, i still have 1 1/2 bottles of old formula. don't love it, never found it easy to use. i had 2, 3 days of wow! hair, many days of 'hot mess hair,' and days when it dried out my hair. better on dry hair than on wet for me. however, sometimes even tho i barely used any, it just never dried!! so i am using up what i have as a 'finisher' after my hair is dry and needs something else. at this rate i'll probably have these bottles forever!

You can get the original formula at hellocurly.com. Apparently, the husband and wife team of UFD divorced and she started a new company and renamed the formula Hello Curly Curl Stimulator. He kept the UFD name and changed the formula.

I noticed that Uncle Funkys is selling the old formula. At least that's what the ingredients list says. Anyway, they are having a BOGO 1/2 off so of course I ordered some curly magic :). I happened to have some of the old formula in my stash and decided to use it after not using it for close to a year...results were just as good as I remembered :thumbleft:

I just hope there are no formula changes and such anymore.

Just wanted to say that I ordered Thursday night..my package was shipped on Friday and I'll have my UFDCM on Monday! That's service!! :hello1::hello1:

I also emailed and asked about the current formula. It is indeed the original formula :). They are changing the look of their label so the sale is to clear out the bottles/jars with old labels. I'm so excited!!! Also, shipping is free with a $50+ purchase.
