Curly girl method

Hey curlies

So I was just on YouTube trying to learn what the curly girl method was and to me I still don't quite understand but from the looks of it it seems like your basic wash and go. So are they the same and if not what is the curly girl method ??:?:

The CG method is based off of Lorraine Massey's Curly Girl Handbook. I'd really recommend you by the second edition off of Amazon - it's only a couple of pound and also includes a DVD so you can see the tips in action.

One of the main things is cutting out harmful / drying chemicals like sulfates. Some people choose to low-poo (use shampoos without this ingredients) and others choose to co-wash (wash with conditioner only).

It's best to avoid silicones that aren't water soluble while on the CG method as these can't be removed without sulfates.

Browse around the forum, google it etc. and you'll find loads of info. And do buy the book too!

Live curly live free has a book as well that is also beneficial to caring for curly hair too. It has some of the same info in the cg handbook, with some other stuff too.

I suppose so- I just started the cg method (and kind of the tightly curly method) in November. What I found was that I have less frizz and I retain moisture better so I'm more able to get multiple day hair. In essence my hair is healthier than before.

It doesn't necessarily work for everyone- but the big question on my mind right now is do you know your hair properties? I ask because there are cg-friendly products that are WAY too heavy for my hair and make it look horrible. So though they fit in the method, it turns out not appearing like it does if that makes sense.

Low porosity hair usually is the best at retaining moisture- but my hair wasn't the best at seeming to retain moisture pre-cg. First day hair would be so great, but second day hair would be so stiff and tangled that I had to re-wash or completely rewet to style.

Now that I am cg I have fewer problems, and my second day+ hair is softer/easier to style. It was crazy because I only really cut out of my normal routine my leave in conditioner and my deep conditioning treatments. Some stylers, but not so many that I would say that they made huge contributions to my routine.

My curls also are better at keeping their shape overnight, so I kind of do support your theory. It's definitely worth a try! I ended up buying the e-book off of amazon for less than $3- the only problem I have with my edition is that I use it on the kindle for PC reader so I can't see the videos. I lent the ebook to my sister so that I could watch the videos on her kindle.

I would probably say your hair is high porosity if you have trouble retaining moisture

The Curly Girl (CG) method is a hair care philosophy about how to develop good curly hair care practices/habits, get it and keep it healthy so that it will style well and look good. Wash and go is the preferred styling technique in the CG method. But they are not one and the same; you can be CG and not do wash and go's and you wash and go and not be CG.
