I'm pretty sure when I had my analysis done at LCLF, they said they used a microscope. I also got tons of info and product recommendations.

Got my hair all bagged up and ready to ship off tomorrow. Sending hair through the mail. Who woulda thunk it? : )

I've always been interested in having an analysis done but I'm a bit like Lauraimes - a bit wary and feel a bit silly sending hair overseas! Hope I wouldn't have to tell the women in the PO what's in the envelope.

Like Jeep, when I received my lclf analysis, it was informative and included product recommendations with an explanation as to why. I actually received nine pages. I still think it was worth the $20 I spent.

These new analyses seem to go a step further with the analysis and get more into the science, whereas I think lclf gave a basic overview to help consumers gain a basic understanding of their hair to help them find a routine.

That's not what I got!!! I got like a page that told me my results and a link to her pinterest for products for fine medium and coarse hair. That was it. Not worth the money I spent at all.

lclf had stopped giving product recommendations because the manufacturers kept changing formulas and it was impossible to keep up with all of them, and by the time you got your analysis the product could have a new formula.

The waiting is killing me! I sent my hairs on Saturday and paid on Saturday as well. I have a question, How did she know the sample you sent was yours? Did you put your email address in the envelope?

I put my name and email on my questionnaire and included it with my hairs. Didn't put my name on my hairs though, I figured since it was all together, she would keep it together in the envelope. Name and email is really what identifies you on etsy, not so much your address.

After she received my hairs she emailed me. I got my analysis like 2 days later.

    LCLF's site says here, that:

"Effective January 27, 2014, Live Curly Live Free will no longer offer their hair analysis service. If you have previously purchased one and do not receive a completed profile by February 15, please contact us at 727-323-2875 to let us know.

Although we have made the decision to discontinue this service, we still encourage you to purchase our e-book to learn how to take care of your curly hair."

    Thanks for the info.

I am happy to announce that LCLF is still honoring any analyses already purchased. Thank goodness! I was really concerned!! With that said, hopefully I get a decent analysis.

I got my analysis exactly a week after I put my hair sample on the mail. I sent her a message and pictures of my hair through Etsy after I sent my package. Then I email her at her gmail address with a few more questions. She responds very quickly to the mail.

I tried the pre-poo treatment she recommended for me, and I got 2nd day hair out of it! It never stays curly over night. I only had to refresh like 3 little spots, and I was good to go! Usually I have to wet down my whole head. Very happy!

To use an oil (I used coconut oil) to act as a buffer when you shampoo so your hair doesn't swell and you don't lose proteins. I had to shampoo twice, but it worked very well, and I loved the results from it. On the weekends I think I'm going to do overnight coconut oil soaks. I've been looking at how coconut oil head massages helps hair grow, so going to be incorporating that. It's an awesome oil all around, and by far my favorite to massage with. :)

I used to do coconut oil prepoos but found them hard to wash out. Glad you had a good experience, I think I will try this!

It's funny how everyone's hair reacts differently. I've found I don't need to shampoo twice after my coconut oil treatment. I just use my SM low-poo, condition as normal and that's that!

It is funny. I don't even have to shampoo my hair after a coconut oil treatment. My hair loves it and I just have to co-wash. Goes to show you what works for one person will not necessarily work for another, especially when dealing with different textures/porosities.

Some people say it's easier to cowash the oil out than shampoo it. But I end up OC'd sometimes if I cowash.

Some of it is down to how much oil you use, but even with a really heavy oiling I can usually shift it all in one co-wash: that's largely practise, knowing how much conditioner and massage is required.

I prepoo'd the other day for the first time with coconut oil and it was a disaster. I could not get it out of my hair for anything and every time I showered it would run down and sit on my back and face and chest. I tried KCCC, I tried my regular low poo, I tried conditioner, I tried straight baking soda. Finally it came out and I firmed up my hair with a protein treatment. My hair looks shiny but it is definitely still overconditioned. STILL! Pre pooing is definitely not for everyone, at least with coconut oil. I should have known better since my hair is ridiculously easy to over condition and even just a tiny drop of oil turns my hair into a stringy, limp, moist mess. Next time I think I'll use something lighter like yogurt and honey. I don't know what is about my hair. Just know you're not alone!

Yeah, I don't think it works for everybody. I was expecting to hate it, to be honest. I tried washing it out with a sample of the CJ gentle cleansing shampoo, but it just wasn't cutting it. Washed with YTCucs and it came out just fine.

Seriously, same here. I read what wendy told you, sixelamy so I really wanted to try CO pre-poo... it was terrible!
So hard to wash out, and I had to use a lowpoo and my hair felt so dry and stringy when wet afterwards. I couldn't even get it all out! I just styled my hair and whatever. Now it's feeling really soft and nice but I can tell some of my roots are oily.
Curls are sort of nice, but if I have to low poo for two hours every time I do this... no no! Not worth it. :/

I'd like to add that: I love my pre-poos with coconut oil! I want to get a hair analysis eventually also. I don't know why but I really thought they were much more expensive than this.

I didn't have good results with coconut oil when I did a shorter pre-poo- I only do them overnight as a result. I think the science behind it that I had to look up was that the oil penetrates but it takes at least 8 hours to get the full benefit. I usually end up with 10-12 hours b/c I'm loathe to part with my pajamas on Saturday mornings. I didn't look into whether or not you could shorten this time by applying heat in the form of a dryer though. For me it's easier to apply my oil, put on my plastic cap, then my scarf and go to bed. I do have to low-poo out the oil- when I co-washed it out I ended up not being pleased at all. For my foray into shorter times, I used my clarifier, ended up adding extra along the length of my hair and let it sit for a minute or so, before it felt "right".

When I want a shorter time pre-poo my new discovery has been greek yogurt and honey- I left it on for 30 minutes then hopped in the shower and it worked great! I could co-wash that out no problems.

Hmm, this is definitely a thought. I only left mine in for about 15 minutes... I was going to leave it in overnight but realized it wouldn't be a good idea with surrounding events. I'll be curious if it comes out easier with an overnight or prolonged soak. Going to do another one this weekend.
