My waves straightened out?

I'm still somewhat new to embracing my waves and trying different products/techniques. But my head is a mixture of 2a/b/c waves, straighter underneath, and wavier on the canopy. Usually I can get it to look like uniformly 2b waves.

However yesterday my hair dried all limp and straight... Like 1c, with 2a/b in the shorter damaged layers.

I didn't do anything drastically different. I did my usual VO5 Kiwi Lime co-wash. Used GVP Detangler as my rinse out and left a tiny bit in, then raked through some KCCC before gently scrunching dry with a towel and mostly air dried with a bit of pixie diffusing.

This is the first time I used the combination of the Detangler and KCCC so maybe that could be it. Or maybe I didn't use enough KCCC? Or maybe it's just because it's winter? Or is limp waves a sign that I need some sort of treatment?

So basically what I'm asking is: What causes your waves to straighten out? And how do you treat/prevent it/avoid it? Any input is appreciated!:)

Are you using too many potent humectants? Are you considering your hair properties and dew points/ humidity when selecting ingredients and products?

No, I'm not considering humectants/humidity at all when choosing products. I'm going to have to do some research on that.

If your hair draws in too much moisture it loosens the curl? I guess it makes sense, my damaged hair is wavier than my healthier hair.

Yes it can weighed down by humectants. Also looking at the ingredients for your GVP Detangler and it seems to be more aimed at smoothing the hair than encouraging curl.

The second and third ingredients in that conditioner are apparently not water soluble, tho 'curl chemist' Tonya McKay doesn't think they should build up.

Hydrolysed protein is good for fine to medium hair, damaged hair and wave boosting.
