Should I trust her for my mini chop?

I just went to this salon in the Bronx that was recommended to me just to talk to the stylist and feel her out but I'm a little scared. I went in and asked her what she thinks about my hair and told her about the chemical damage I have from relaxers and keratin. I haven't done them in over a year and she said she can see the damage but I have so much hair then I would have to do a keratin in order to control it when I cut it short. I said I didn't want to do one but she said that this is a different type of keratin that just smooths the hair and not straighten it. All in all I said I'll think about it but how much would it be, she replied that because my hair is so thick it would be 300 with the cut and style. What do you guys think, should I trust her? Because of my extremely thick hair I haven't been able to find the right person, especially at home in florida. Please help me!!!

You are the customer, if you only want a cut only have a cut. Nobody 'needs' a damaging chemical service, people had beautiful thick natural hair before they were invented.
Plenty of celebrities have extensions/ weaves to get unnaturally thick hair, IMO it 'needs' enhancing and defining not controlling.
CO-wash: Inecto coconut/ Elvive Volume Collagen
Treatments: Komaza Care Matani, coconut/ sweet almond/ fractionated coconut oils, Hairveda Sitrinillah
Leave in: Fructis Sleek & Shine (old), Gliss Ultimate Volume, various Elvive
Styler: Umberto Giannini jelly, Au Naturale styling gelee
Flour sack towel, pixie diffuse or air dry.
Experimenting with: benign neglect
With hairdressers/ hairstylists you haven't used before and you don't know you mustn't be vague.
I suggest you go back when you are less rushed and ask the questions:
1. How much to cut my damaged ends off?
2. Do you cut wet or dry?
3. Do you straighten curly hair before you cut it?
If she still insists on chemical straightening or a "treatment" go elsewhere.
i think the word 'keratin' is misleading, making people think it is protein/good for your hair/natural....... blah, blah, blah.
if you stopped relaxing your hair a year ago, it sounds like you want it natural. i say, keep looking. this is a woman who is not comfortable with natural hair, she wants to 'tame' it.

You may have thick hair but I doubt it's "unruly".
You just haven't worked out how to deal with your hair due to the ends being damaged.
People especially those in the hair profession who describe naturally curly, coily and kinky hair as "unruly" tend not to know how to cut and style it.

and, you should not judge a cut by the styling --many stylists just can't style our hair no matter how well they cut it. just go home, wash your hair and see how it works for you.
look at the thread in this section called, what should i tell my stylist. has lots of good info to look for and ask.

I agree with rbb about going into Manhattan. I had a fantastic cut by Carlos Flores at Mario Diab last week (which cost $140). In the past, I've had my hair cut by a junior stylist at Devachan for $70, and was extremely happy with the cut. I wasn't as happy with her using almost every product Deva sells on my hair at one time, and realized afterward, from looking at a picture taken there that I must have been starting an allergic reaction by the time she was done, as I was beet red. This time I was looking for something which was a bigger departure from what I had, and Carlos gave me an incredible cut. He also has a very light hand with hair products, and only used one styler on me. Also, he dried my hair upright, with an amazing dryer which seemed to be all infra-red heat, and no moving air. He teaches a lot as he's going along, and I think you'd find that helpful.
