Shampoo suggestions for mixed hair type?

My 8 year old has hair to her hiney. The top layer is straight, but underneath she has a mix of botticelli curls and wavy curls. The end result is a stringy looking mess. I'm on a budget, but it looks like VO5 conditioner and a nice gel could help us, but I haven't seen many recommendations for inexpensive cg shampoos. Her hair is fine and long and can't handle the weight of using a conditioner to wash with.

I haven't tried it but, the sulfate free Yes To Cucumbers is popular around here, and not too expensive. Yes to Cucumbers Color Protection Shampoo
Also, the Shea Moisture line is well loved and not that pricey.

You may only need to shampoo once or twice a week...a bottle of the right stuff will last a long time. You might be able to get waves in the lop layer.. It is probably just waiting for some tlc.

Random gels - not sure which ones I like, if any at this point!

    poo - TMW Hydrate
    RO & LI - Darcy's Pumpkin Seed
Leave in Products: CHSCK & LALMG

Currently trying to figure out a winter routine and transition to a less harsh "poo" for summer.
