Need help figuring out a good leave in in these dew points.

I know this question is asked all the time, but no matter how much I search, i can't seem to have all the combinations fit in my mind in order to figure it out myself.

It is winter and the dew points are currently -11 degrees (Farenheit). My properties are: High porosity, fine, low density, and low elasticity. I need to find a good leave in.

I am looking into buying Giovanni's direct leave in, would that be worth it? Will it help me in this extremely dry weather?

Ingredients:

Aqua (Purified Water), **Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, *Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, *Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Extract, *Thymus Vulgans (Thyme) Extract, *Chamomilla Recuitita (Matricaria) Extract, *Salvia Sclarea (Clary) Leaf Extract, *Lavandula Angustifuolia (Lavender) Extract, *Tussilago Farfara (Coltsfoot) Flower Extract, *Chillea Millefolium (Yarrow) Extract, *Equisetum Arvense Extract, *Glyceine Soja (Soybean) Seed Extract, Cetyl Alcohol (Plant Derived), Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5), Citric Acid (Corn), Phenoxyethanol, Grapefruit Seed (Citrus Derived), Natural Fragrance.

I don't know much on Aloe vera leaf juice (only mentioning it since it is the second ingredient). Every time I search I get contradictory explanations. I figured what better way than to ask all my wavy and curl friends.

P.S- What I am currently using is in my siggy. I 100% will be buying another jar of KCCC bc I already know that it works all year around for me.

When I search, people will say "Humectants steal moisture from your hair..." that honestly doesn't click for me. What does that even mean? And then when i search for specific ingredients for humectants, I can't get a straight answer. I sound like a newbie right now, even though I have been on this site for almost 2 years, but it goes to show that the learning process does not end.

When the air is very dry (very low dewpoints) instead of being able to suck moisture from the air into the hair (high dew points) the humectant pulls it out of the hair and it disperses into the environment because its dryer. This can dry out your hair. Does that make sense? humectant pulls moisture from the most moist thing around it. If the air is not as moist as your hair the humectant will pull out your moisture.

Nature is all about balance. If you want to know how humectants "steal" moisture from your hair when it's cold, then you might want to read some more about dewpoints.

These articles made things very clear to me: http://pittsburghcurly.wordpress.com/dew-points/

    http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/wavy-hair-type-2/the-411-on-dew-points-humectants

This is a list of humectants:
    1,2,6 hexanetriol
    Butylene glycol
    Dipropylene glycol
    Glycerin
    Hexylene Glycol
    Panthenol
Phytantriol — enhances moisture-retention, increases absorption of vitamins, panthenol, and amino acids into hair shaft, imparts gloss
    Propylene glycol
    Sodium PCA
    Sorbitol
    Triethylene glycol
    Polyglyceryl sorbitol
    Glucose
    Fructose
    Polydextrose
    Potassium PCA
    Urea
    Hydrogenated Honey
    Hyaluronic Acid
    Inositol
    Hexanediol beeswax
    Hexanetriol Beeswax
    Hydrolyzed Elastin
    Hydrolyzed Collagen
    Hydrolyzed Silk
    Hydrolyzed Keratin
    Erythritol
    Capryl glycol
    Isoceteth-(3-10, 20, 30)
    Isolaureth-(3-10, 20, 30)
    Laneth-(5-50)
    Laureth-(1-30)
    Steareth-(4-20)
    Trideceth-(5-50)
    (I found it here: http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/kinky-hair-type-4a/ingredients-commonly-used-in-hair-care-products-humectants)

With dewpoints that low, I would seal moisture in with an oil (or look into the LOC-method if your hair is high poreus). And probably use a leave-in with an oil in it.

Thank you everyone. Putting it in more lay terms makes more sense. Unfortunately and I am being straight honest, if an article is going to have a bunch of block text (not saying that the ones offered on here do) and isn't clear, I am going to begin to over look. So its nice to see a more simple breakdown.

BTW I DID look at different articles about dew points prior to this. Not sure how I feel about balances because I have read mixed thoughts on that concept.

I've never had a problem with it, but it looks like they've reformulated GDLI (yet again), and AVG is no longer in second place. According to iHerb, here's the current ingredients list:

Aqua (purified water), cetyl alcohol, tocopherol (vitamin E), panthenol (pro-vitamin B5), citric acid, phenoxyethanol, natural fragrance, citrus grandis (grapefruit) extract, *aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice, *helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, *glycine soja (soybean) seed extract, *betula alba extract, *malva sylvestris (mallow) extract, *achillea millefolium extract, *chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower extract, *equisetum arvense extract, *lavandula angustifolia (lavender) extract, *rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract, *salvia sclarea (clary) extract, *thymus vulgaris (thyme) extract, *tussilago farfara (coltsfoot) flower extract, *urtica dioica (nettle) extract

AFAIC it's not a biggie if you don't glom onto a super-thread about humectants. In fact, it's probably preferable. Big threads can be next to, if not impossible to navigate through.

This is the same leave in I use, for what it's worth, and the dew point here is 26 fahrenheit. It's been working fairly well for me. I'm not positive on this, but I'm pretty sure the aloe appears lower on some ingredients lists because in this product it's one of the extracts added to the water. Some listings put these extracts toward the end of the list because these shouldn't necessarily be looked at as the top ingredients, at least this is what I've read.
The dew point situation has always confused me a fair bit as well, so I always feel I learn something whenever someone asks about it.
