Looking for a non-drying shampoo

I've tried to not use silicones on several attempts but it ended up being too much daily maintenance for me. I find that if I use a conditioner and styling cream with silicones I can pretty much go the entire week without washing and very little maintenance every day. The problem is that my hair looks very dry for the first day or so after washing and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a shampoo that would still get out silicones but not be so drying. I've been using Kinky Curly Come Clean which has been pretty drying. I used to use Devo No-Poo and also found it pretty drying. Both my conditioner and styling cream have amodimethicone (and trideceth-12 and cetrimonium chloride) in them.

I find the Jessicurl Cleansing Cream to be the best as far as not drying out my hair. It will also remove cones. You can purchase a 2 oz travel sized bottle to try it before investing in a larger bottle. I love it, though, and have tried a lot of shampoos.

Natures gate pomegranate sunflower shampoo, organix Moroccan argon oil shampoo the turquoise bottle. I like these and Giovanni tea tree tipple treat shampoo, think that's the name. These are gentle I would say, esp. the Giovanni one.

And pretty much all if those are sulfate free but still remove cones.

The Kinky Curly Come Clean is drying because it has an olefin sulfonate. Some people have issues with the polyquats in the Deva No-Poo, which build up and may be why you experienced dryness.

The most gentle low-poo I've ever tried is CJ Gentle Cleansing Shampoo, which can remove cones, should not be drying. When I want something stronger I use Giovanni Brazilian Keratin and Argan Oil (or Smooth as Silk or 50:50).

Think about diluting as well. You can get a slightly stronger low-poo and dilute it with water before applying to make it more gentle.

The Argan is really great, but it really hurts my wallet. I've been trying to find cheaper alternatives online.

This looks legit, but I'm scared to take the plunge. Has anyone found cheaper online sources?

I don't actually use argan oil on my hair. I tried once and it made my hair stringy and greasy, didn't add any benefit.... oils don't usually fare well for low-porosity hair.

I was referring to this shampoo: Giovanni, 2chic, Ultra-Sleek Shampoo, Brazilian Keratin & Argan Oil, 8.5 fl oz (250 ml) - iHerb.com

Otherwise, referring to the oil itself, I'm afraid I'm not very knowldgeable on argan oil.... but it would pay to look at several health-food type of retailers. iherb also carries a few brands.....Search - argan oil - iHerb.com

Firefox where can you buy sweet almond oil & how do you use it? In your spray bottle?
  • Firefox7275Firefox7275 Registered Users Posts: 3,750 Curl Neophyte
I found my sweet almond oil in the World Foods section of a UK supermarket, also widely available in Asian grocers. More expensive would be a health food store or online oils supplier, might even be in the cooking oils section of your regular grocery store.

I've only used almond oil as a pre-wash in place of coconut oil, but found it way easier to distribute being a lightweight liquid (my apartment is cold!). I just put my palm over the bottle opening, tip bottle and then spread what sticks over both hands so they are really only very lightly oiled. Then onto hair: repeat as required.

You should be able to use as a leave in/ finisher the same way OR add a couple drops to your leave in conditioner or gel.

I bunned my hair after the last oiling and it didn't look disgusting and stringy like when I coconut oil, if I'd used half as much as I did I reckon I could have run errands like that!!

I'm guessing you're starting out and I just want to mention that you should take recs from people with the same or similar hair properties over curl pattern....especially in terms of cleanser/condish. I've gotten great product recs from a curly on the board who has a much much tighter curl pattern than mine, but identical properties. Our hair looks totally different, but often responds eerily similarly to many products (because of the identical properties!)
