Natural Growth

So I was thinking about those of us who've been natural for some years. How do you think your perspective on your hair and or natural hair in general has changed over the years?

1. shinkage doesn't bother me as much. Used to be I wanted to show length all the time. Now i actually like being able to pull of a short or long look without cutting my hair. even first day hair has grown on me when I used to hate it. but maybe that's bc my hair is longer.
2. i no longer want to completely eliminate frizz. my hair looks fake without at least a little frizz. i don't like the look.
3. I'm lazier about dc'ing.
4. I'm embracing the slighly messy look versus trying to have every curl in place.
Yes, it's real. No, you can't touch it. :wav:

I haven't been natural for a few years (only since October really), but in the short time I have been my perspective has changed significantly.

The most drastic thing is I used to hate having any type of curl or kink in my hair - dead straight all the way! Now, the curlier the better. I actually love shrinkage and want my hair as curly as possible. It's a complete 180 for me.

My perspective has changed as well. I used to want to tame my hair and never wear it big, but now I like big! I like the fact that I can have volume if I want it, or wear it with less volume. The versatility is amazing! I've also learned that some frizz is okay and that my hair can have either big curls or tiny ones, depending.

    1) As long as it doesn't make my scalp itch or my hair dry idgaf what the ingredients are. I missed out on some good products eliminating ingredients that others said were "bad" because they read it as opposed to trial and error.
    2) I used to hate shrinkage because I wanted length...now I just hate it cause it makes my hair harder to detangle (lol). But it's what kinky hair does so no use in crying about it.
    3) When it grows it grows, no more me pulling on my strands to stretch them out nearly every day to see if it's growing. It's gonna happen whether I watch for it or not.
    4) it's not straight hair so I can't treat it like straight hair and expect good results.
    5) ssks gonna happen. Lighten up. This isn't Pokemon and I can't catch em all.

1.Go big or go home! If I can't wear big huge like I like with braidouts or twists then I'm not interested in wearing my hair. (Hence why for the last 3 months I've been wearing wigs. The humidity/high dew points never end)
    2. Dcing has fallen to the waste side but I need it. I have been way to lax about my haircare

I know what you mean. I heart big hair. Every time I say I'm onlygoing to seperate my twists once but I keep seperating and fluffing. I can't resist the urge.

Agreed. I need volume! I hate it if my curls look flat and too 'tame' so if it looks that way I'll ruffle it up until my heart is content :D
