So, my head is hennaed and wrapped with 3 hours to go and i'm very anxious to see what my color is.

Was wondering if any one would like to share their first-time henna success/horror stories :)

Once I got over my fear, I had a great first experience with henna. It brought back the vibrance to my red hair.

I did do a glaze, just to be truthful. Now I'm full strength. Also, I have shoulder length hair, and a two hour application works for me.

Hi! I'm new to the forum; have been reading up on henna for the past few days here and elsewhere. Finally took the plunge and purchased henna. It's now on my head (and all over my bathroom) with 2 hours to go. Hopefully, I won't have a horror story to share. By the way, my instructions said 1 to 2 hours (it's from Henna Color Lab and has other herbs added for medium brown). Does that sound right?

I buy from Henna for Hair; can't vouch for other vendors.

Btw, try to get to the splashes you mentioned; I think I've ruined my tub rinsing out my hair. This stuff really stains.

Thanks Claudine! The tub seems to be ok, definitely took some scrubbing. I'm happy to report that after 2 hours my hair came out a nice shade of brown, a bit darker than my natural color and much shinier. The two gray hairs I saw previously are gone so I guess they've been covered. It definitely relaxed my curls a bit though.

I just henna-ed for the first time today! It wasn't a bad experience. It was simply too messy for me. I like very simple things and directions. This was thick, stained my fingers (gloves broke), and seemed like it took too long to get out. BUT it did like how it made my hair feel softer and healthier. I don't dislike the product, just the process.

I'm not a first timer but fairly new. This will be my third time doing it. The first time I choose a pre-blended shade (henna mixed with amla and other herbs). I got mine from Henna for Hair. It was darker than I wanted but not in a bad way at all, just a dark red. The second time I did straight up Jamilla. I found a local store that carried it. It turned out a much lighter shade of red but faded quickly :sad10: This time around I got pure Henna from Henna Color Labs. I'm pretreating with their Henna Treatment (Neutral henna(cassia obovata), alma gooseberry, shikakai fruit, brahmi oil, khus grass, Barbados nut, heded oil, baheda oil, katha/acaia leaves). I have found my scalp really likes Henna. I have very dry skin with a fairly bad case of psoriasis. My scalp has been this way since I was a teenager. I was tried of paying for all the prescriptions. I noticed after the first Henna that my scalp wasn't itchy or flaky for about 4 weeks after the treatment. I couldn't believe it. So I plan on using the Henna treatment once a week on my scalp as a preventative measure. I honestly love Henna and I'm so glad I decided to take the plunge. :love5:

I've done two full henna applications so far with BAQ henna. And I am very happy with the results. I don't want to go much darker so I think I will just be doing my roots from now on. I don't mind the long messy process, just glad I don't have to chemical dye anymore. I haven't noticed much fading and it leaves my hair shiny and healthy. Only downside, I straighten my bangs and I have noticed significant darkening to that hair in comparison with the rest of my head.

I just did my first henna two days ago. It was quite difficult to apply. I think the problem was that my paste was too thick -- seemed like a yogurt consistency to me, which is what everyone seemed to recommend, but maybe I just eat thick yogurt, haha.

So, the colour was applied a bit unevenly, but it still looks natural. I'm pleased with the results, so I'm more than willing to try it again (with a thinner mixture, this time)! I slept with the mixture on.

I was lucky, too; I got my henna for about $7 CDN from a local Indian grocer -- body art quality Rajasthani, 500g! I was afraid it was stale at first but the colour is just lovely. I think getting it from a store instead of online can be hit-and-miss, for sure, but I think it was definitely a hit this time around.
