my hair is crazy

no matter what products I'm using, my hair is crazy. Its not behaving right.

certain gels make it too hard and gross. others give it soft curls and then it frizzes easily.

even when I get pretty curls i get plenty of frizzy flyaways before its even 100% dry.

arghhh.

I have no idea what to do. I have been using this deep hair conditioner from Schwarzencopf or something like that.

it seems like nothing I'm doing is helping my hair AT ALL. I am sooooo pissed.

Ideas please?

Cheating is removing build up of minerals from hard water.

I was using a protein conditioner by schwarzkopf but as soon as I stopped using it my curls got tons better. I did a test two days ago using it again and my curls went limper so maybe my winter hair doesn't accept protein.

You just need to find which ingredients your hair likes and dislikes.

You might want to be a bit more specific: what is "gross" to you? My definition of gross might be different from yours.

The first thing that comes to mind when reading that your hair frizzes even before it is dry are polyquats. For some people, polyquats cause frizz when wet and build-up. In my case, this leads to my hair being weighed down, limp, fuzzy, and it leaves me with the feeling as if there is a film of something on it. Bear in mind though that polyquats belong to a huge group. Each individual polyquat has its own functions and uses, so if polyquats are the problem, then this does not necessarily mean that all polyquats will cause problems.

    Scrunch out the crunch.

It's explained in the CG handbook, but basically when your hair dries crunchy this is just a 'gel cast' which forms to ensure your curls dry more uniform and there is minimal frizz during the drying process.

Once your hair is completely dry you simply flip your head upside down and scrunch, then flip it to the side and scrunch (or whatever method you prefer). You just do this until the gel cast 'breaks' leaving you with soft, bouncy, frizz-free curls.

I swear by it and, no matter what gel I've used, I've never not been able to SOTC before. Just give it a go and you'll be amazed :D

I think the eco gel is one of the hardest holding gels, if I'm not mistaken. Have you tried a jelly product, like Kinky Curly Curling Custard? I swear by that stuff, and it gives good hold. If you put enough in, it will be a little crunchy, just enough to hold while wet. It scrunches out nicely, but still holds well after. Polyquat free too! Most gels contain them and can make hair frizzy if you play with a bit too much when it's wet.

I agree with BotticelliBrit about SOTCing.

If I still notice any residual crunch, I find that applying a very few drops of a very light oil, such as (100%) pure argan oil (I find vitacost.com a great, low price source), or jojoba oil to my hands, then skimming them over my hair, and briefly cupping the ends in my hands helps. It takes a moment, but the crunch quickly melts away.

    ok, thank you

i have gotten my best curls from la looks but couldn't get all the crunch out. thanx

More leave in conditioner under the gel to reduce the crunch. Be sure to leave until fully dry, this can be well after you think your hair is dry. Some gels soften naturally in the last hour or so.
