Deva trained stylist - impressed again!

So I went and got my second cut w/ a Deva trained stylist. The first was back in Nov and I really liked it. Since I'm going away Wed, I really wanted to try and get a cut before leaving. When I called this past Tues, I was told that the guy who did it last time was on vacation. So I asked for the girl who was Deva trained & she was booked. Then I decided to try back Fri thinking there'd be cancellations & yep, got an appt for color & cut. She did a great job! The funniest thing was that she dried my hair with the blowdryer (no diffuser) on low & using her hands! No frizz! She claims it's better than the diffuser if you touch it properly (which I'm sure I won't do). Anyway, the cut was what I asked for, she did not cut off the length aside from what was necessary. Also, they used Low-poo on me, which I had never tried. They wanted to use it to get rid of the color buildup I guess. I liked it & might buy a small bottle & use it every so often to ensure I get out the A cone from the One C.

Anyway, glad I got it done - highly recommend the Deva trained stylists if you find a good one as I honestly cannot tell the difference from when I went to the actual salon!

Hi! Can I ask what salon you went to? I always make my semi-annual trips to Devachan SAlon in Manhattan, but would love a Deva-trained stylist here on the island. And you say they ae just as good? Was it the same price as Devachan? TIA!

It's called Jon Megaris and it is in Plainview. Deva's site has them listed, but has the incorrect location - they are not in St. James as the site states. There are two stylists there that are trained to cut using the Deva method. Honestly, I could not tell a difference from when I went to NYC & this cut. That was me, I don't want to say everyone will feel that way. However, they are very good and know curly hair and are trained using all their techniques. And you do not have to bring your own products, they carry the entire line. Haircut is $70. Let me know if you have any further questions...HTH

how did she handle your hair while drying with the blow dryer? Did your hair blow around at all?

I got no frizz - she just used her hands and just kind of cupped the curls gently while the dryer was on low. My hair barely blew around. I don't know, I just don't think I could do that properly and will therefore stick to the good old diffuser.

Hi Lime, for my hair, she did clip the top. I only needed 3 clips. She did say that my hair in particular would not need more than that. I think this might be the Woodbury plaza - I don't recall if there is an Ann Taylor, but there is Bed Bath & Beyond, Trader Joe's, CVS, Victoria's Secret...the salon is near the far right end of the center - on the second floor near a Weight Watchers. You walk into a lobby & go up a flight of stairs. Personally, they were both good, but I think I liked the guy, Steven a little better. The girl is Laurissa and she is excellent as well. The phone number is 516-935-1500. I do not think they are there on Mondays. Also, Steven only works Thurs, Fri & Sat. Just be sure you specify you want the Deva dry cutting method. HTH.

I go to a Deva trained stylist too, here in CT. She is awesome, in fact I'm going to see her tomorrow for a long overdue cut! I can't wait!! :D

I'm glad you found someone you love. I drive an hour to go to mine and it's so worth it to have a stylist you trust to do a great job. 8)

I was wondering where you go to? I also live in CT. I just started CG and would love to find a stylist that knows how to cut curly hair.

Speaking of Deva cuts, wondering how often those who get Deva cuts get their haircuts? I got my first Deva cut in early November, and while I used to get cuts every three months, my Deva stylist said I could wait six months. Not that I have to of course...Feeling kind of unruly now and just am curious what others' schedules are. Thanks!

At my lst (first?) deva cut, she said I shouldn't need to return for 4-6 months. I guess it depends how your hair is behaving and looking. :? Since I no longer have regular layers, it should grow out nicely.

I've had several friends who go to Devachan who only need to go every 6-8 months or so. I really wish that was me!

My hair grows super fast and I usually get it cut every 3-4 months, depending on what I can afford. If I had lots of money, I'd probably do it ever 2-3!

Their cuts do last a good while and I find they "grow out" to still look good. Even now I'm needing a cut, but my layers look great.
