You describe what you plan to wear/buy/whatever to a friend and they say, please don't. You balk and ask why not? The person then responds with,

WHY WON'T YOU LET US SAVE YOU?

Hahahaha....Yes, this just happened to me...

I wish my friends would be more direct with me. Thank god my ex was. He finally mentioned that my jeans were out of date and then I pressed on about it and he said they were awful and I wore them in front of his friends (he does not usually give a **** about this stuff so it must be really bad). He got me into wearing skinny pants.

I like to be up to date. Friends shouldn't let friends be out of style(especially if your career is in fashion!). I will tell you in heartbeat if your OS, phone, laptop/tablet or TV is out of date!

lol it was actually an accessory I wanted. Do you remember the clips for your shirts to cinch in the waist? They were big in the 80s. Not so much now. But I need them. I'm losing weight but not ready to buy new clothes or permanently alter them yet. Someone said I'd look like chubby hausfrau circa '92...

Me, too! Like for the back of your blazer!? Girl, shut your mouth! LOL

I actually just bought one a few months ago from Jo-Ann Fabrics...but have nothing to use it for. Just wanna be prepared for if/when the look comes back! LOL:evil4:

^ If you just bought one a few months ago, they probably are already back. The 90's (with some twists) are back. It's that time in the circle of fashion.
When I hear terms like "hipster" I think, who told cliques they could leave high school??

For my birthday, as a surprise, my hubby drove me to Seattle (3 hours away) and dropped me off at the Nordstrom flagship store and told me to call him when I had bought a brand new work wardrobe lol. That's how out of style I am (well, was!)

Seriously though it is hard to tell a friend to update their look. Especially is some of it has to do with finances. You don't want to make them feel bad.

You, my friend, once said those very words to me, in regards to a ring I wanted.
Oh Lord! I don't recall... Ahhh, karma.

I was def thinking the bottom examples...but all of the ones I had were made w/ a strip of elastic and not chainmail.

  • The New BlackThe New Black Posts: 16,742Registered Users Curl Connoisseur
Yes, I meant the bottom pic, definitely!

The one I had was braided leather.

LOL! I am cracking up over this! On one hand, I am old enough to remember when those "clips" (the bottom picture) were around the first time, so technically, if they came back I shouldn't even look at them. HOWEVER!!! Everything I own is too big around my waist thanks to having to shop to accommodate my boobs so it would SO NICE to clip a very subtle looking, same-color-as-the-fabric clip to the back of certain button down shirts/blazers to help stuff fit me better without having to spend money on a tailor...
HG: Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee (always and forever)
Cantu Naturals s & c (shampoo 1x a week), use conditioner as a co-wash every day and LI under my gel.

Air dry then diffuse canapy layers only for volume
Coconut oil before/after coloring grays and on ends.

2b/c mix waves/curls - coarse, frizz prone, med. thick, porous, at-home color, protein sensitive but I still need it sometimes, glycerin-sensitive (I think) in high humidity. After 16 years on NC.com I FINALLY figured it out..

    Exactly my reasoning!

Yep, the bottom one. I only remember women wearing the elastic. It is something I would see quite often in my moms office. (I never wore one, but I really had no need in or just following high school, and tiny boobs) Most the time they had a blazer covering it up.

I had the t-shirt cinching rings, in the 80's, in various neon colors. Those things never stayed in place.

I'm slightly mind blown when I reflect on how much plastic was a part of my wardrobe in the 80's.

But I did love my different colored (black, neon lime green, neon pink, electric blue, etc) sports bra/half tank tops , my oversized white t shirt with a deep v neckline that I cinched with a ring, and all of my crazy pairs of printed leggings. My favorite pair will always be the ones that were black and white with television sets all over them.
