Hair growth challenge for 2014?

MaraHannaMaraHanna Posts: 32Registered Users
Are there any challenges for 2014 yet? The year is about to begin, only 1 month left.
I'm looking for partners to start a challenge of consistent growth and length retention of around 1 inch per month for 2014.

Anybody else interested so we can suggest and draw out the rules for the challenge?

Oh great! I'm thinking of starting a new thread to announce the challenge.

So, here are the RULES I came up with:

    1. Make sure you take a healthy diet with lots of water
    2. No or minimal heat styling (at most once a month)
    3. No harsh chemical treatments (relaxer overlap, overlapping color treatments or color with perm, etc)
    4. No excessive hair trimming (at most 3 times per year)
    5. No fine-toothed combs or brushes
    6. Low manipulation as much as possible
Those who join the challenge can choose to commit to some or to ALL of the rules as suits them best.

And here are some suggested sub-challenges that we can choose from every 2 months:

    1. Satin or silk scarf or pillowcase for night time
    2. Finger detangling. No popping/tearing hair with combs and brushes
    3. Baggying
    4. Greenhouse effect
    5. Inversion
    6. Castor oil scalp stimulation
    7. Henna
    8. Got anything else in mind?

Everybody who joins the challenge should state the following:

    1. Curl type:
    2. Strand thickness:
    3. Porosity:
    4. Current length (including a photo if possible):
    5. The length I aim for:
    6. The challenge rules that I commit to: (plz pick from the blue list above)

    7. Other techniques I intend to use for hair growth and retention. For example:

      • Protective styling: braiding, bunning, etc
      • No poo/low poo/co-washing
      • Regular scalp massage (what with?)
      • Vitamins and supplements (plz specify)
      • Other techniques (plz specify)
    8. Techniques and products you will use to keep your hair strong and moisturized. For example:

      • DC (what with? How often?)
      • PT (what with? How often?)
      • Leave in product
      • LOC method?
      • Others (plz specify)

We officially start by the first of January. But those who would like to cheat can start right away and enjoy the benefit of being one month/one inch ahead of themselves and their goals :angel9:

We should report our progress at least once every 2 months (a photo of the achieved progress, the growth rate, the retained length in inches, compliance with all our commitments, any problems, setbacks, success stories, etc)

There is no need to straighten for measurements, you can measure the hair curly or just manually stretch it to make a measurement.

ImageUploadedByCurlTalk1386562603.630470.jpg This is how my hair looks today after a bad hair cut bottom right was the length before the cut I asked the stylist to cut my hair all even and these other three pictures are the end result I'm so so sad because that was a major set bk I'm bk where I started...😩😩

@Imjsme She probably took it to the same length as the shortest piece? I don't trust stylists either.. so who knows?

I asked the stylist to cut my hair all one length and she added long layers...
So now I'm gonna have to grow thsoe out -_-

I once upon a time didn't trust any stylist because of experiences like this, but I did eventually find two very open and honest stylist who showed me the ropes with haircuts. She told me if I went to someone else be super specific as to what I want- describe how you want it to lay, what you're picturing, and if you have a photo bring that in with you. Actually one of the stylists refused to cut my hair until I brought in a picture of what I wanted, then talked me into keeping my length that I was getting rid of to have more body by the way she was going to cut my hair- she got major cool points. The both of them also took forever for my first appointments because they asked all these questions of me, then told me why they asked what they were asking, and what they were going to do to achieve what I was asking for.

I would be wary of waiting a whole year to cut your hair- that can lead to having to lose more hair than going for trims. My two stylists (at different times of my hair journey, man I'm hard headed sometimes) informed me that regular trims are better for growing my fine textured hair- as your's looks like it is too from your pictures I'd keep that in mind. Under those care routines, I finally got my hair past my shoulders and was eventually shoulder blade length when I moved too far to go there anymore and my hair started suffering again.

P.S. When I say trim I mean nothing more than a quarter to a half inch in length being cut off of any section of hair (unless you have more damage in a single area than that amount but I would consider that a cut not a trim- something else my rockstar stylists taught me).
3C/4A Fine texture, low porosity, low/medium density? Trying CG since Dec. 2013

Thanks for the info I will try to find another stylist who cares and understands because I'm still upset about this cut.
