Newbie/question about leave-in conditioner

Hello everyone...I'm new to CG, although I have been transitioning for 7months, I just did my BC two days ago. I really wanted to transition for a year but I couldn't just keep my hands off my hair..lol, guess I was too eager to see the natural hair growth.
Anyways I wanted to ask, cos I did some research before deciding to go natural and I started doing protective styles whilst transitioning, but I noticed that when I use cantu shea leave-in conditioner I get like white residues on my hair. I was thinking if its dandruffs cos I do have them when I was fully on texturized hair or could it be the leave-in conditioner I use?
I'm still im the process of learning my hair and the products that would suit it and I think I'm between a 4b or 4c; not sure of mi hair type yet. so I'm glad I found this forum and hope to get a lot from here as well as give advice too from the experience I gain.

When do you put the conditioner on to your hair? Is it wet or damp? Do you put other products on at the same time?

If you use them on wet or damp hair it's possible some of the ingredients are reacting with water. Alternatively it could be reacting with other products you use at the same time. Both cna cause it to dry leaving white flakes.

If you are using other products it's a good idea to do a little test. Line each of your products up with their lids off, take a small amount of the first product with a finger of your right hand and put it on the top of your left palm*, then do it with the next product putting it under the first on your left palm and so on. Then rub your palms together. If the mixture goes white either when it's wet or dry then it will go white in your hair.

*If you are left handed to it the other way round for ease.

I posted a topic a couple of weeks ago asking if the cantu leave in was good b/c I was thinking about trying it & several people said it leaves the white residue in their hair. So I would probably try another leave in. Personally I love As I Am and Kinky Curly Knot Today.

Thanks for the replies…the info is really helpful.

Most times my hair is wet after a cowash when I apply the leave-in conditioner, and i usually mix it with just essential oils. I only use other products on subsequent days when I have to moisturise my hair daily.
I will definitely do the test to see if the mixture turns white on my palms.

I could change my conditioner but i wouldn't know what else to go for, I live in the UK and most products I have heard of are mostly sold in the US and I have no idea what else to use that is easily accessible here:sad2:

Maybe you can just leave a bit of your normal conditioner in your hair? That's what I've been doing recently and there's a great improvement in the amount of frizz I get. It also eliminates needing leave-in most times though I do add my oils afterwards. I have the Cantu leave-in as well and it takes forever to dry and leaves white residue. I still use it on a weekend when I'm not going anywhere but that's one product I won't be re-purchasing.

Giffyz: list of CG friendly conditioners over on British Curlies forum. I use a regular conditioner not something sold as a leave in, since many if those are actually detanglers or moisturisers or serums not true conditioners.
