Hard water really makes a difference :(

I just found out recently that I have hard water. I use and love an acv/water mix for chelating and did that today with amazing results! I just let it dry without rinsing it out and my curls are happy again!

The hard water makes my hair limp, thinner looking, and stringy :( so my question is how often can I use it? I wish I could use it everyday! It stinks but is darn worth it to bring my curls back to life!

I think if the minerals from hard water build up on the hair, the buildup can cause tangles. I'm pretty sure this is what happened to me when I lived in an old dorm during university. Lol

I bought a cheap shower filter, it was like $20. It helped a lot and can attach to your showerhead. Also, I clarify a couple times a month and it works wonders. Highly recommend both!

Ok thank you so much for answering guys 😊 my husband and I are going to buy the PUR water filtering system and I was going to use the water in a bowl after washing. Would that be good?

I hope that works well, be sure to update us. :) As for shower filters, I've always been curious about their effect on the water pressure.

Hard water is the pits!! I want to out in a filter for both minerals and chlorine, but I've yet to do it.

I mix some ACV with my RO, and that seems to help a lot.

    Good luck!! KUP!

I agree Jas76 it sucks!!! It even makes my hair flat and when I use regular water I get so much volume, definition, very little to no frizz, bounce, shine...everything! With the hard water I was using all my techniques like plopping, styling upside down, scrunching with a t-shirt, shuffling lightly at the scalp and pineappling but nothing changed it! I am definitely getting a water filter system soon! For now I'm using a shower cap here and washing my hair at my parent's. Lol

I mean c'mon I have 3rd day hair and it looks amazing! I can't stop looking and taking pictures of it! Lol

Would something like a Brita filter take out the minerals? I'm wondering if you could filter a bunch of water into a small basin and just use that to wash and rinse your hair? Is that what you mean about the Pur filter?

There is quite a difference though, when I used to live in the states, I did use hard water and it made my hair dryer than it already is and I feel like it seperates the curls

Ok, this is probably a dumb question...but is there a quick way to determine if you have hard water? My hair has been the absolute pits for a long while now and I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the house we moved into a year ago.
    Thanks!

I'm pretty sure there's a map you can look up online that shows whether or not your region has hard water. I can't find it at the moment but perhaps you could Google around and see what you find.

We have hard water and I manage to keep my hair behaving with lots of good moisturizing products. I have long thick hair so rinsing with a bowl of purified water wouldn't work for me. If I was that bothered by hard water, I might think about a whole house water softener. I don't know what that would cost though and don't know whether you're a homeowner or an apartment dweller.....
