Makeover Suggestions?

I really want to get a makeover. I wear bareMinerals and don't have any complaints about their make-up. But, I went into Bare Escentuals earlier this year trying to get her to recommend eyeshadow or blush colors; it was like pulling teeth. So, I'm thinking Benefit or Bobbi Brown. Any suggestions?

Do you know whether you look better in predominantly warm or cool colors? Is it mostly changing up the colors that interests you, or do you have something specific in mind, like how to do a smoky eye? Youtube has very helpful videos. Also, look at current magazines to try to get an idea of what you might like.

If you are near a dept. store consider going to the Clinique counter. You can try on all kinds of makeup from foundations to lipsticks/blush eyebrows, etc and nobody will bother you. You don't have to buy anything. Just say you are browsing. Pretty much the same in Sephora. You can try lots of different colors from many manufacturers.

I love makeup! There's a makeup forum on this site - maybe ask some questions there. Best of luck with your makeover! :thumbleft:

Thank you! Warm colors. I recently had my hair colored dark auburn. I want to make sure the colors I'm wearing are complimentary. Plus, I haven't had a makeover in years. Sometimes you just need a little fun. :)

Yes, absolutely - sometimes you just need a little fun!

I'm bumping this thread hoping others will chime in. Auburn hair is wonderful for trying out new colors! Claudine 191 has red hair - maybe she will have some input. Here's a few suggestions:

NARS makeup is very pigmented and has gorgeous strong colors. Benefit tends to be for younger people - softer colors. Bobbi Brown emphasizes yellow toned foundation (which doesn't work for me) but she has good lipstick colors. Very expensive though. Estee Lauder and Lancome have a wide color range. Revlon has a huge range of colors and very good quality lipsticks for the price.

Also, check out seasonal color theory (sometimes called seasonal color analysis) online. Even if you don't buy into the whole concept - you can find tons of makeup information and color ideas.

I hope you get a chance to play with colors and report back what works for you! Have fun. :blob7:
