Good co-wash?

BotticelliBritBotticelliBrit Posts: 2,075Registered Users Curl Neophyte
So I'm thinking of trying co-washing. I still love low-pooing, but since I wash my hair three times per week, I figured it might be nice to co-wash on one of those days (so just once per week, in between my low-poos).

I was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations for a co-washing conditioner I can use to cleanse my hair? I think I'll still use my regular conditioner - the Shea Moisture one in my signature - afterwards to condition properly. That's okay, right? Or do I need to use the same conditioner to cleanse and condition?

Any help would be grand!

Most people rate Suave Naturals, V05, also used are Treaemme Naturals and Inecto.

Shea butter can easily build up, IIRC it's high up in some of the Shea Moisture conditioners, they are not simply water soluble products - can't see which you are using since am on my iPhone. I would therefore be wary of co-washing if you are using butters especially in a leave in product.

I'm using the Restorative Conditioner. I haven't had problems with build-up so far and since I only plan to co-wash OPW in between loo poos, I figured it'd be okay?

Thanks for the recommendation! V05 and TRESemmé seem like the go to products for co-washing :) I'll have to give them a go!

I personally love the As I Am Coconut Cowash, and the V05 Kiwi Lime Squeeze, specifically.

Yay I hope you enjoy :D they are my staples for co washing, conditioning, and leaving in! I've been CG for 8 months I believe maybe a little more and they have never failed me! I just wish the TN's new formula had as good slip as the old one!

Tresseme naturals. My new favorite though is the Eden Bodyworks cowash. It's cheap ($8 for 16oz) and you only need a bit...add water and it spreads like a dream. Favorite find this year for sure.

If you are in the UK check the ingredients as some of the products have different things in them from those are in the States.

You can't get Sauve unless you buy it on Amazon or get it from the States. Though there is a substitute product which you can get from pound shops but I can't remember what it is.

SheaMoisture makes a really good co-wash from their coconut & hibiscus line. :) I also second the As I Am co-wash. I use the YTCarrots as a co-wash. You can also take any conditioner that you have and add a little baking soda to it if you would like.

I use Suave Rosemary Mint conditioner. I have used other conditioners that left a "build up" on my hair but the Suave has never done that. I love it.

I'm definitely a "curly" 2c. Sometimes curly and sometimes just wavy upper layer with a ringlety under layer. My hair has been thick and coarse since birth. Strawberry blonde in color that can and does change depending on the type and amount of light.

All in all, I'm happy with my hair type but almost for sure think yours is prettier. :)

Hi there! Depending on the type of curls you have and the thickness of your hair, you can use a light runny conditioner like suave naturals to co wash and use as a leave in. But if you need more moisture I use suave naturals to co wash, and the generic value products conditioning balm as a rinse out ( you can get this at Sallys, I also use Kinky Curly Knot Today as a leave in.

But you can also go on youtube and see waterlily716 or shalimarcat, they have great videos on which products to use and how to use them!

I hope my info helps you ! :dog:

I use Mane and Tail deep conditioner (yes, the one with the horses on the bottle) once a week. It has one cone in it but so far, it's done my hair well! Awesome slip, great for detangling, smells good and has a funny blue color😄 on days I don't DC, I use Dove damage therapy volumizing conditioner (my curls are fine). The latter has NO cones.

The one that says Nourishing moisture is cg friendly. The one that says Intense Nourishing Moisture isn't.

I use Tresemme Naturals, which I love but mostly I like having something I only have to go to Sainsburys to get! I haven't actually tried many others to co-wash with as I have not felt a need too, it does the job.

I have a few co washes that I really like. I'll rate them like this: fav to least fav.
    1. Deva care no poo
    2. As I am cowash
    3. Suave tropical coconut
    4. Tresemme naturals: this one has mixed reviews for me as I've only used it once. So I can't accurately rate this yet. But I can say my hair loves avocado.

    Hey!

    My Co-Wash Methods:

    • As I Am Cleansing Coconut Co-Wash
    • Herbal Essences Naked Moisture Cleansing Conditioner

-- After I Co-Wash my hair with those, I let my hair sit in a masque/mask, preferably Carol's Daughter Monoi Repairing Hair Mask, it seems to be the best on my hair (& a little of your favorite oil). I let it sit for 30mins-1hr. Then I do whatever is next.

I've found that rinsing my conditioner out with cold water helps reduce frizz, as well as being more moisturized throughout the few days/weeks I go without watching my hair.

I hope this helps you and/or someone else.

    Have a great día,
