Futuristic Trends-- Let's Think of Some

SpringcurlSpringcurl Posts: 8,002Registered Users
Reading yagotta's post:
I think aliens need to just go ahead and land so we can get a look at them...because I'm really bored with the looks of folks on this planet.

or maybe they just keep putting on display the same types of folks...

I say... let's have a look at the aliens.

got me thinking. Let's think of futuristic trends.

I believe in the next 15 years people will start tinting their skin-- blues, pinks, you name it. Skin tinting is going to be the next big thing.

My daughter thinks in the future people will shave their heads because they will consider hair unhygienic.

What are your ideas for some futuristic trends?

I believe that mainstream pop music will become so extremely prepackaged, and pre-processed (is that a word?) that the entire song will be reduced to one bland, single, solitary note.

It'll be too much trouble (and cost too much money) to actually use the brain cells necessary to make an actual melody or tune as we know it today.

In the future, people won't learn to write anymore. They'll just learn to type at a young age. Instead of having signatures, thumbprints or some other "unique" thing will be used.

I can totally see both of these things happening.

The skin tinting thing might be kinda cool.

I can't see the shaving thing - the hair industry is too big!!

One thing I cansee becoming big is "designer babies" having the baby with the bluest eyes, the blondest hair, the highest IQ, etc. kinda like Boys from Brazil.

In class earlier today I let myself get distracted by some guy in front and to the side of me browsing the internet from his seat. He was looking at sneakers on e-bay. A lot of people type their notes as profs lecture, it got me thinking that maybe in the future they'll look like flatter palletes and maybe the keyboard will be at the bottom of the pallete and a cover simply slips over. But I'm sure it'll be something more sophisticated than that, maybe find an alternative to keyboards. Voice recognition software doesn't seem convienent, you want to be able to isolate what you record.

More bullet trains would be nice. Expansive public transportation systems functioning at much higher speeds that could really cut down commute times.

All music will just be percussion and people will have giant wall-sized TVs, with the goal of accumulating 4 TVs for a fully immersive experience.

Wait, maybe that's just the one sci fi book I like...

My brother keeps waiting for some kind of lights to be implanted in or under the skin. Personally, I just see him walking around with some horrible out of season Chrstmas light situation and I'm going to have to pretend not to know him.

Huh, from the four-wall TV thing I would have thought Fahrenheit 451...I read it in middle school though, so I don't remember any musical references, let alone if it was all percussion.
    OMG, LOOK!!

I don't remember any part about music, but I do remember the wall thingy.

Seriously- I have been psychic lately...... For example, my brother's wife and I were just talking about that book 2 days ago! About "the book where there was an atomic bomb and they had to ration everything.." FREAKY! I scare me.

WS wins :D I think I've only read F451 once since middle school, but I always think of it whenever I see someone walking around listening to their iPod, especially with ear bud headphones (this phenomenon is "predicted" in the book).

Maybe Lost Babylon also fit, but I've never heard of that.

--Someone in the future has got to invent a better way to wake us up in the morning. I really want that jetsons waker-upper thing. That would be so cool. I would be so happy. I hit the snooze alarm for about 45 minutes before I actually get up. I hate the whole waking up process, it's exhausting.

btw. I'm really starting to obsess over the idea of having tinted skin. my skin looks so blah and boring to me now.

I want a Rosie. I liked how she showered and dressed George. You could just chill and them BAM! Be ready. Also, I like their cooker thingy that you pressed a button and whatever food you wanted was ready.

On another note, I want us to have a microwave-type machine that makes stuff cold instead of warm. Like you put your drink in the "cooler-wave and in seconds, it is cold. Or pasta salad or jello or melted ice cream, whatever.

I think I am mistaking Last Babylon (which I think I made up...) with something I have heard somewhere called Alas Babylon. Ring any bells??? I am about to Google it...

YES! I want that thing too.
I'm really dissapointed we don't have this stuff.
I thought FOR SURE that the Jetsons was just a little teaser for what the future was going to be like when I grew up.
This is SO not the future.

Alas, Babylon is a novel by Pat Frank, first published in 1959, and "must qualify as one of the very first apocalyptic novels of the nuclear age."
The novel deals with the effects of a nuclear war on a small Florida town.

Fahrenheit 451 is a dystopian soft science fiction novel by Ray Bradbury.

It is set in a society where censorship is prevalent and moronic citizens learn only from television. Most books are banned and critical thought is suppressed.

Okay, apperantly, I have read both books and was just combining them in my mind!!!!

And the Back to The Future movies too. Where is my freakin' Hover craft skate board thingy?? And why aren't we wearing cool space-suits w/ silver boots??? :?:

I'm STILL waiting for the washing machine that gives you all the clothes back instantly clean and folded, and hermetically sealed in cellophone, like Mrs. Robinson had on Lost In Space.

I'm too old to tint my skin purple...that's bound to emphasize fine lines.

Wow, I read Alas, Babylon when I was in high school. I had completely forgotten about it. Those books about post-atomic bomb existence (On the Beach too) made me happy I live in a state that will be completely vaporized if there is ever a nuclear war.

I'm hoping for kitchens that do the cooking for you automatically, plus houses that clean themselves. :D

I want the cool "Ford Dream Car" that was in a picture book I had as a child.
It skimmed the ground instead of having tires and the driver sat in the middle. It was supposed to be reality by the '80's. We're not even close. :-(

I can definitely see movies being made without real actors. The animation today is amazing already.

g-stringgranny. interesting you should mention this. i don't think it could quite work from what we have now, as any CGI animation is based on the actors who voice the characters. take shrek for example, if you watch fiona she does have a lot of diaz characteristics and modes of speaking. the voice actors are viewed then the CGI is based on their movements to make the voice and character match up.

but if they managed to get computers to act the voice too....

everyone go watch 'do the evolution' by pearl jam. it's a cartoon video and very clever and very scary. it was made a few years ago and it has the 'designer babies' thing in it, before it was a 'thing'.
