Tips on cutting these curly bangs into my side part?

So tonight I've decided to take the plunge and give myself some curly bangs. I wear my hair parted on my right, just like the girl in this picture. These are the sort of bangs I am going for: we have very similar hair.

And this is me, sans-bangs:

I've cut plenty of bangs on folks with center parts (even other curlies) but for some reason doing it on myself while maintaining my side part is giving me trouble. I just can't wrap my head around it. I don't want "side bangs", either. I want full on, all across the forehead BANGS! Are there any tips or should I just go for it?

P.S. As a rule, I don't see professional hairstylists. Even the "curly specialists" always do something crazy to my hair. I've always either cut it myself or had my mom do it. If it's really important that I go to a stylist for this, I would consider it, but I've wasted too many dollars on bad haircuts.

Oh my gosh that's how my hair is too! I'm chopping my own as well. I just haf to go from waist to jaw so I wrnt to a stylist and told her to just cut it straight across. She ended up chopping and then adding long layers. She shampooed my head and conditioned with some silicone laden bs. See what I mean?

Anyway I would say do your hair as usual and cut it dry. Take a piece of hair curl by curl amd cut off the tip. Keep each part of the full on fringe a bit longer and once you cut what looks like "grown out" bangs you have your base.

You can either wash your bangs and style as usual to see if there is shrinkage etc. If you want them shorter trim again but like I said curl by curl. Don't chop off in the middle of the s pattern ever! Just cut off the tips. Make it blunt. Sounds weird but once you start styling after the next few washes the bluntness adjusts and finds other curly hairs to clump with.
    I hope you love it!
Have fun and pm me if something comes up ;)

You need to make a sort of half moon of curls and trim that. Better to not cut enough off and add than take too much bulk or cut too short. Check out YouTube, there are all sorts of tutorials there, from stylists to amateurs to Crea Clip.

I am trying desperately to grow put my bangs that are now below my eyebrows.

I would suggest leaving your bangs long enough to pull back with the rest of your hair.

You can always cut more if you want.

Bangs with very curly hair are difficult to style to me.

I cannot tell you how long I have seen this pic on the internet and loved this style. My curl is tighter and I have no bangs…but every time I cut bangs my hubby goes nuts. He loves me in bangs way more than I love how they feel…they make me crazy on my forehead when I first cut them...but I love this style. The difficulty in "styling" curly bangs do not apply here because the beauty of this cut is that the bangs adorably do their own thing

IF I could figure out how to cut them like this (and I cut my own hair) I would. I hope it worked out for you! :-)

Just follow the instructions and illustrations in Curly Girl: The Handbook. It couldn't be simpler. There's even a DVD with videos. Best $10 I ever spent on my hair!
    Peace,
