Seeking suggestions to make my curls pop more?

Hi all. I've been CG for about a year now. I like the products I use but I think I can get more pop / spring from my curls. Would love some product suggestions!

I use Curl Junkie Daily Fix, Curls Coconut Sublime Daily Conditioner, Curl Junkie Curl Assurance Smoothing Lotion for a LI, and either Curl Junkie Pattern Pusha Gel or Original Moxie. About once a week I wash with a sulfate free shampoo (Blended Beauty or Jessicurl).

My hair is 3A/B, I have a lot of medium length, thin hair that is very frizz prone. I get deva cuts every 3 months and color every 6 weeks. I always use a microfiber towel and rarely blow dry.

So, here are my issues... I usually combat the frizz with the LI conditioner and gel, but, if I don't get the product balance perfect my hair is either weighted down or frizzy (though some days it looks great!). I think my hair has potential to get more springy curls. Any suggestions on changes to the products -- maybe a curling cream? My hair gets dry from protein.

Thanks for the tips!

If you're having a lot of frizz and your curls aren't springy like you think they should be, I would clarify with a clarifying sulfate shampoo if you are comfortable. It won't ruin your hair, and sometimes it's necessary. This is the only way I personally can get my curls to bounce up. I would see if that helps first (if you haven't already tried that) before switching up products. Your products look very decent. My hair can't handle the Smoothing Lotion, they go flat whenever I use it on wet hair, probably from being pretty oil heavy.

Best way to choose ingredients/products is by hair properties. Here's a link to help you with yours Curly Hair Basics | Live Curly Live Free

A few things. Microfiber towel causes frizz for me. You may want to try using a CLU, Curlease, flour sack towel or 100% cotton tee. The smoother fibers don't "grab" your hair and cause frizz.

Many people rotate products. My hair always satiated on product, even back in my shampoo/conditioner only days. I wet, use a rinse out and style every day. Seldom let myself use any one product more then once every five days, if that.

If your hair is fine and/or porous, protein is your friend.

i don't know what type of climate you live in, what the dew points are, but cj smoothing LOTION (not to be confused with the smoothing conditioner) has glycerin and can take moisture from your hair if the dew points are low, say below 40? i only use it in mid dew points. curl junkie has lots of great conditioners you can try. the cj beauticurls leave in is an extremely versatile one, moisturizing yet lightweight. also the smoothing conditioner is good as a leave in. honestly, any of the cj conditioners work well as leave ins.

i do agree with kathymack that the first step is trying to understand your hair's properties. texture and porosity are the most important to help determine ingredients.

Thank you everybody, great suggestions. My hair is medium texture and highly porous. When I use products with protein the curls are beautiful but they dry out if I use protein too much so I try to use protein sparingly. It sounds like an issue may be the glycerin in my LI cond. I live in a climate that is humid in summer and generally dry the rest of the year, I think I need to rotate the glycerin products out for winter and generally rotate products more often.

What do you think about the gels I'm using, are they ok or would a cream be better?

    Thanks again for the help!

i don't know anything about original moxie, but i can speak for cj pattern pusha -- love the stuff! no glycerin, good for high and low dews. i get consistent results with it. does not dry my hair, does not make it crunchy. i also use it on dry hair when my hair needs a little something later in the day. and, it works great with cj beauticurls leave in. :-) neither of these products would weigh down your hair.

i should add that if your hair is highly porous, you would want to try sealing it. while it seems that it would weigh it down, if you use the right product it won't as you can use much less of the other products. look on the high porosity threads for ideas. some oils are lighter than others. or you can try butters.
