After much proscrastination and growing my curls down to my waist I decided to book my first appointment at Curls Rock Studio in Boca Raton. Now this is quite the drive for me from Miami, but despite the handful of reviews I read I took the risk. First time clients are offered a 20% discount so I really couldn't lose. All stylists are Deva trained and the owner, Katrina was trained by Lorraine Massey herself.
The salon itself recently openes in its new location, it is very spacious and inviting, I was greeted and Mercedes, my stylist promptly greeted me. She asked me what I was looking to achieve, which was a much needed trim and layering without losing too much length. Mercedes (a curly girl herself) went on to thoroughly explain the importance of cutting curly hair dry, she did not touch a single strand of hair without first explaining to me how and why she was cutting it. She complimented the condition of my hair and I informed her I had been a "curly girl" for about 4 years. Although the salon is full of Deva products, there was no "product pushing" from Mercedes.

Once my cut was complete I was off to get my hair washed by a lovely young which I totally forgot her name. She massaged my scalp with the right amount of pressure gently detangled my hair using her fingers. Mercedes then came over, scrunched conditioner and product in my hair, once again she explained everything she was doing. My hair was partially dried with a standing dryer then diffused to about 80% dry. After styling Mercedes went back in with her shears to add the finishing touches.

Since I have long hair I expected my cut to cost around $100. With the 20% as a first time client it was 60$!!! I generously tipped Mercedes and gave me her card with the date I had cut my hair and to return in 3-4 months. Needless to say I was very satisfied not only with my haircut but with the professionalism of the staff. Although though this salon is an hour away from my home, I will make the drive in 4 mons to have Mercedes cut my hair again. The only places in Miami that offer Deva cuts are at GBS Beauty, I find them gossipy, unprofessional and overpriced. My last Deva cut at a GBS was 100$. At Curls Rock it is $75, or $85 if you decide to book with the owner. They definitely gained a new customer with me especially after showing how appreciative they were once they found out where I live. Here is what my new 'do looks like: ImageUploadedByCurlTalk1381867157.945239.jpg
