Softee protein gel...

I'm new to the natural community.
When I wash my hair and it's product free, I have an Afro with some coils and curls scattered around. I decided to attempt to "define my curls" so I used Textured My Way's Curling Pudding and this was the result. ImageUploadedByCurlTalk1380319582.918056.jpg

So I ran out after 2 wash and go's (I think maybe I was too heavy handed because I ran out quickly). I had to go to work so I pulled out my humongous jar of softee gel. The clear kind. I used it and these were the results ImageUploadedByCurlTalk1380319706.079850.jpg

Once the softee gel dried, my hair looked pretty BUT it was hard as hell to the touch. Is this a sign of protein sensitivity or because I maybe used too much gel?

    Too much gel.

    What happens if you:
    1. Use less product, or,
    2. Layer two products?

I think you need to do some experimentation. :D

Don't blend but layer. I don't have your hair type but I know people who do (:
