Should you avoid being 'down the middle'? (work related personality evals)

You know how big retail corporations (among other organizations) have you take prospective employee personality evaluations...
I just finished one for holiday sales associate positions at Macy's since I'll be really freed up during the holiday season.
The option gradation for how to answer was:
Completely disagree, strongly disagree, disagree, neutral, agree, strongly agree and completely agree.
I wound up being pretty close to the middle throughout it all. Neutral probably 30% of the time, and either agree or disagree 65% of the time.
The other ~5% was some strongly agree/disagree and like maybe .5% was completely agree/disagree.
My brother was saying that, back in the day, he noticed his friend who mostly leaned towards the extremes wound up getting more of the jobs they both put in for. He hugged the middle like I did tonight.
I was just being honest. He says that the expectation is that you will lie, so you just make yourself sound good. These evaluations preface that you shouldn't do that (I wouldn't have lied either way).
Example: Has your work ever been criticized?
I answered that I disagreed. He says that I should have strongly disagreed.
I didn't strongly disagree, let alone completely disagree, because I've received constructive criticism before, in the initial stages of approaching a new task. It's not exactly what I flatly categorize as "criticism" though.

Highly porous. Color over grey.
I love all the Curl Junkie products. Still experimenting with gels and curl creams. Still hoping for 2nd day hair....
Every day is a gift :flower:
Lesson learned.
Not counting myself out on account of it but I wish I had explored it beforehand, since I was generally familiar with what those evaluations are like and had this wonder about them several months ago. I spent a while tweaking my resume before getting into the heart of the ap and the prospect of throwing away that time is a bummer. Ah well.
