Advice for a hairstyle (Frizzy 3B)

Hello all, I'm looking to get my hair cut. I have very long, unmanageable thick and dry 3B hair. Its so long, it's flat at the top and it opens at the bottom and I'm having trouble managing it. So I want to hairstyle it again. Examples of what it looks like;
I think I want a layer cut, but I don't know if that would make me look like a fuzz ball. Which are the best hairstyles out there?
Would this work for a 3B?

PS, it's 23 inches long right now, all the same length. No layers
