Tightly curly/curly girl

Last night I cowash like I would cgm. After I put my leave in conditioner in, I smoothed each curl (didn't take as long as I thought it would. 40 minutes - 1 hr) from root to tip. Got a little tedious once I got to my 4a hair type. I did this per the tightly curly method. OMG I have gorgeous curls!!!! After smoothing my curls, I pineappled my hair & went to bed. Woke up this morning, fluffed my hair & was good to go. Today was the best wash & go every!!! Yay me.

Do you have a different picture with adequate lighting and a close up view of your hair so we can see what your curls look like? LOL

Most people I've talked with don't stick with the Tightly Coily Method because it takes a lot of time and energy compared to a WNG or some other styles.

I think Tightly Curled Method benefits type 4 coils better because it defines it, it just seems like people have to take a while, a friend of mine is a type 4 and doesnt do wash & gos because it doesnt give her curl definition , just frizz and crazy shrinkage. But I think that's the point, to define tight curled hair

Kira, I respectfully disagree with anyone with some idea that any curl type needs to be "defined". I'm not saying you personally have this mindset though. You spoke of others who do, so please don't feel personally attacked with the following rant:

There's nothing wrong with excessive manipulation to define hair for fun, enjoyment, and some variety IMO, but I get a little irritated when people assume any hair type isn't OK until or unless it's "defined". I've heard too many people tout this attitude (usually toward the type 4 sisters). If we in the curly hair community are only going to promote hair that's "did" and act like natural curls need some kind of involved manipulation to be acceptable, how much better are we at accepting our hair than we were before we stopped all the straightening? Also, how does that message sound to the curliest among us who might not be able to "define" their curls a la Terry? Should they hide their hair under a hat?

And that's why I think Terri's method is a viable, creative option, but certainly not necessary, and definitely very time consuming based on the vids I've watched and the OPs account :afro:

I'm a mix of type 3 & 4 hair. I have no problem with my hair curling up. However, I don't have the hair length to keep my hair looking like just an Afro. Can't wait to get some length.
