I left Aphogee protein in for 2 days and...

I know this is quite unorthodox and many people will be frowning, but my hair loved it!

I decided to leave the two minute keratin treatment in overnight because I was too tired to wash it out. When I woke up the next morning I have to say I had one of the best hair days I have had in a very long time. My hair had amazing definition, bounce and shine. I ended up leaving the treatment in until my next wash day so I could just stare at my hair in the mirror and I did not have breakage or negative side effects that I had expected might occur from leaving in protein (not that my hair broke in the first place). If the ingredients were better and it wasn't so protein heavy I would seriously consider using this as one of my regular leave ins.

Which brings me to my actual question. Can anyone recommend any more "natural", lighter protein (but quite thick) leave ins they know about?

Are you in the UK? If so Schwarzkopf Gliss ultimate volume conditioner from pound shops, Home Bargains and Bodycare. I love it as a leave in, is hardcore for an everyday conditioner but obviously not the level of a treatment.

    Ingredients
"water, cetearyl alcohol, hydrolyzed collagen, panthenol, cocodimonium hydroxypropyl hydrolyzed keratin, hydrolyzed keratin, isopropyl myristate, behonoyl PG-trimonium chloride, citric acid, VP/VA copolymer, phenoxyethanol, behentrimonium chloride, sodium methylparaben, hexylene glycol, fragrance, polyquaternium-37, dicaprylyl carbonate, hexyl cinnamal, amyl cinnamal, limonene, linalool, benzyl salicylate."

There is a curly specialist salon in Birmingham if you are anywhere near.
2a-2c, medium texture, porous/ colour treated. Three years CG. Past bra strap length heading for waist.

CO-wash: Inecto coconut/ Elvive Volume Collagen
Treatments: Komaza Care Matani, coconut/ sweet almond/ fractionated coconut oils, Hairveda Sitrinillah
Leave in: Fructis Sleek & Shine (old), Gliss Ultimate Volume, various Elvive

A gentle piece of advice: tread very, very carefully with concentrated protein treatments, even if your hair seems to love it at the moment. At varying times in the curly hair journey, the hair may be starting to become overloaded with protein, and if you aren't aware that's happening and you go to leave concentrated protein on it for hours at a time again, it could make your hair break off.

Hair needs a balance between moisture and protein. In fact, many of us - including me - have had to learn the hard way at times, that balance is key when it comes to hair care in general. Doing things to the extreme, especially too often, can backfire.

Firefox, just picked that up today, thanks. Can't wait to try it. I have heard of Matthew James if that is who you are referring to? I have read many reviews and he seems like a good option. Shame he is such a trek to get to.

Korkscrew, I definitely don't/won't do this often! Better safe than sorry.

I am going to try this! After several years of being mod-CG, I didn't do much of my usual heavy protein routine over the spring and summer, I thought I would give my hair a break since I don't use moisture on my hair. Any moisture just kills my hair and I have to do even heavier protein.

So, long story short- after several months of no protein, my hair is in terrible shape- so frizzy with extra moisture its over conditioned even tho I only use a very light RO when I wash 2x per week.

I'm hoping this can give my hair a much needed boost of strength. Even a gelatin treatment was not enough to give some structure and strength, just a limp soft mushy mess right now...so even tho it probably won't work for most, it sounds ideal for me so thanks for the idea

.....update-so, since my hair was in such a mushy mess, I decided to do a clarifying wash with Paul Mitchell sulphate shampoo. Its the one that removes chlorine as well as buildup. Wow! my hair absolutely perked up, my curls are back, still a little mushy but I intend to do the Aphogee 2 min as a leave in and see what happens.

How did this work out for you? I did the two minute for about 10 minutes and it left my hair looking amazingly defined. So I am kind of wondering....

sorry I didn't get back to answer. Had a major power failure just before I went on vacation for two weeks.

So, I tried this once and it was ok, it gave me back my curls but I guess theres other stuff that made my hair feel gross when it dried. I ended up putting my hair up in a clip for day 2 and 3 just because of the gross feel. I guess its back to overnight PT for me, the PT leave in didn;t seem to work that well for me, it matted my hair badly.
