Decent article. I love how that one guy selling curly-hair products said he "believes that the market for curly-hair products had reached a saturation point." ... Of course that's not true. Many people still don't even know they have curly or wavy hair due to all the sulfate-shampoo they're drying their hair out with. That sounded like an attempt to discourage other companies from developing more curly products that compete with his ;)

"According to Ms. Heathman, silicones (polymers that come in so many varieties — including cyclomethicone, dimethicone and lauryl methicone copolyol — it’s hard to keep a tally) are often added to products to give hair a smooth sheen. Because many silicones are water-insoluble, though, they build up over time, and the only way to wash them out, she said, is to use a sulfate detergent."

This is kind of silly... you don't need sulfates to clear out cones, so "needing to use sulfates" is not a reason to not use silicones. Even Deva products used to have amodimethicone AFAIK. I understand that many like to avoid cones altogether or in most products but for other reasons.
