Breaking Bad Thread, anyone?

anonymous_133347anonymous_133347 Posts: 1,426Registered Users
I saw there was a Walking Dead thread a few months ago but Breaking Bad is my absolute favorite show. I've been with it since the near beginning and I'm freaking over the final (technically "half of" the) season and the premiere the other night. Oh, man. Still have to wait nearly 48 hours. My fist is in my mouth. Anybody else watching so we can sweat it together?

I love Breaking Bad. It is a fantastic show, but unfortunately I am running behind. I've been having Breaking Bad-a-thons, attempting to catch up, when I can and am recording the new episodes. Hopefully I will be able to join in the conversation soon. I am getting ready to start season 5.

Oh man. Good thing I didn't let any spoilers loose. You're in for a hell of a ride with season 5, fifi. Thank goodness you don't have to wait the whole year between the middle of season 5 and start of season 5b. It was TORTURE. But soooo worth it. :happy1:

The thing I love about Breaking Bad is that it feels like a modern Greek tragedy. Actions have consequences, and even though it's so painful to watch I'm always on the edge of my seat. I started the show firmly on Walt's side and now it's as if every time I see him I want to hurl something at the screen. Anyways, I'm studiously avoiding any and all spoilers at the moment. Not that I think Vince Gilligan would ever slip. But you got to be careful what you read. That's why I decided to start a thread where we might share our instant reactions to the upcoming episodes. Only seven left. :banghead:

I've never watched this...I know, I know. I want to start from the very beginning. This is definitely on my list to do. Just started watching "Hell on Wheels." I've been recording the past episodes and watching on the weekends to catch up. I've missed so many good shows because of crappy cable and no dvr. That's all changed now.

I'm going to have to come back and figure out how to discuss spoilers later. (Did people say you just have to put the text in white?) But I made the mistake of watching last night's episode before bed (instead of waiting until today) and yikes, I could not sleep last night. They are killing me with the cliffhangers, man! And the speed is full force. I'm out of breath just watching it! One more week. :sad11:

Lotsawaves, how do you like Hell on Wheels? I haven't seen that one yet. And I tried to get into Walking Dead but found it lacked the strength in terms of story-telling compared to Breaking Bad and Mad Men.

My parents are not the type of people to watch a series straight through. I tried to get them into SOA for ever and my brother has tried a few and it's just not them. They like their 1/2 hr - hour a week.

Got them into BB though and they have gone through 4 seasons in about 4 weeks. They were even watching it on a laptop at the cottage last week and hardly ever turn their cells on when there

I got home at 1 o'clock last night but I couldn't go to sleep without watching Breaking Bad. The cliffhanger at the end of this episode was not as dramatic as weeks past but I find myself confused about something and am hoping to be helped out. Because I'm not sure I'll have to time to go back and rewatch the tail end of season 4 by the end of the week.

(Spoilers underneath, in white. Only read and respond if you're caught up.)

When Jesse puts two and two together (last week) and realizes that Walt had Saul's bodyguard lift the ricin cigarette off of him, and he goes apesh*t, screaming about how Walt poisoned Brock, I thought, wait a second, the doctors or the ex-girlfriend told Jesse that Brock wasn't poisoned with ricin but with Lily of the Valley. So why is he automatically assuming that Walt poisoned Brock? Isn't that a stretch? Sorry, my brain is in a twist. Or could it be that he put the whole darn thing together and realized that Walt lifted the cigarette so that Jesse would suspect Gus but that Walt was genius enough to poison Brock with the plant instead? See, I'm getting confused just writing about it.

Also, how are you guys feeling about Skylar? I read Anna Gunn's editorial in the NYT and was surprised that so many people didn't like her because I used to love Skylar. I mean, love. But now that she's totally gone over to the dark side and lowered herself to Walt's level (first the video incriminating Hank thenurging Walt to kill Jesse), well, I'm not feeling so keen on her this season. I get that she doesn't know Jesse. And to her he's nothing but some drugged out psychopath who wanted to burn down her house. She doesn't know his heart and she hasn't seen (as we have) how her husband systematically tore the kid to shreds. But still, he's a human being. And this is something I never imagined Skylar would say.

Last weeks episode was amazing, sort of ho hum this week. May watch it again though as I was pretty tired. I hateHateHate Skylar though and have since the beginning. She just annoys the crap out of me. I don't know if it's the character or the actor herself, but I feel her and Marie would have been better cast as each other.

    ~~ Spoiler ~~

I was really confused about the poisoning thing too. I thought I must have misunderstood who they were talking about because Jesse knew the kid didn't get poisoned with the riocin.

It breaks my heart how badly Jesse is doing. He was doing so well working with Mike and I hate that he's going off the deep end so much. I don't like where he is heading with the end so near :(

I didn't like they started this part of the season with Walter returning to the house. You knew as soon as Jesse went in with the gas that he wouldn't burn it down.

The video!!! OMG!!!!!!!! How fricken twisted!!! How is Skylar holding this man so close and letting her sisters life be ruined??? Does Gomez know about the video and that Walter is trying to set Hank up? Can he keep quiet for Hank? He seems pretty straight and narrow.

Still so much to tie up in just a few weeks though! I feel like the last few episodes need to be a few hours long!!!

I couldn't get my dad into SOA. I figured he would love it, especially with the Vietnam and Irish connections, but he did not. He loved TWD, Game of Thrones, True Blood, Twin Peaks, on and on. We had very similar tastes. I know he would have loved Breaking Bad.

My mom would like it but for the most part it's Sex and the City and Soprano's with her. She's not into the strange or horror based.

Sorry about the white, nc.com app users. But I think it's especially nice of curlycanadian to offer her services.

    @CurlyCanadian:

Glad you're also confused and I'm not just dense. My brother sent me a vulture article in an email that supposedly explained the Jesse freakout thing (and those quantum leaps of deduction) but let me tell you, I did watch the last 2 episodes of season 4 late last night because it was pestering me and I plan to rewatch the first two of season 5 later this week. It still doesn't seem cohesive and I think this may be the first real plot hole in BB. Oh man I hope not. :sad10: I need to go back and rewatch last week's episode and Jesse's freakout

Okay I tried to post the link to the vulture article but it gives away a major spoiler just in the title so if you want to read it google "vulture breaking bad" how jesse figured it all out" and give me your opinion

Re: Skylar. So I don't know. I'm trying to imagine Betsy Brandt as Skylar. I'd like to think people might have more sympathy for her merely because she's smaller and more fragile looking. But maybe that's just the demeanor Betsy puts on to play Marie. I think both actresses are very talented and could play anybody though. So I personally have always empathized with Skylar because I hate being lied to. Especially by people I trust. And I don't believe Walt did what he did for his family. It might've have started out that way, but we all knows his real reason is a lust for power that's corrupted him to the core. It was just plain sick what he did to Walt Jr. last week. I felt ill watching it. (That's good drama!)

Oh, man, sign me up for the I HEART JESSE club. Can we get t-shirts? There's something Aaron Paul's wounded bird act that just stabs me in heart. I want to hug him and tell him it's all going to be okay. Even now, when I'm on Hank's side and chomping at the bit for him to take Walt down, I'm just so sick of people using the poor kid and manipulating him for their own ends, you know?

So I had the same question about Gomez. I mean he just shows up and I'm all wait, Gomie knows now? What did Hank tell him? And when did he do so? SO MANY QUESTIONS! SUCH LITTLE TIME! As for Gomez being on the straight and narrow, I'm thinking now he's probably willing to bend the rules for a limited time bc of: A) all that Hank's been through the past year and B) the fact that Hank was right about Gus Fring. I just wish they'd bother to fill us in with the behind the scenes. It was annoying how the started Jesse's interrogation on an ellipsis and then Hank and Gomez were so nonchalant about it afterwards. "Do you believe him?" "Yeah." If I was Hank I'd be all, holy sh*t it all makes sense! I'd be bowled over.

BTW, guys, how do you guys want BB to end? I want Walt dead, but something tells me that's too easy or predictable. I think since it's a show about an antihero and a protagonist that morphs into an antagonist, he's going to win. He might die right afterwards, but he'll die on his own terms. And that may very well mean taking some people down with him. :confused3:

Slightly related to SOA: I have not read the book, but did you hear Charlie has been cast in the lead of 50 Shades? I saw some controversy or blow up over it on the news last night. People were not happy because he is "lesser know or not who they would have picked". The producers released a statement saying many factors go into casting such as chemistry with the character and other characters, availability, etc. and that people need to understand these are all factors. If your favorite was not chosen, it's because of something on the list provided. :)

I heard they were really bad, but I'm going to have to check out the movie now. I know I've had my preferences for casting in different roles but I've never gone into twitter attack about it, and I'm really not sure why anyone would with him

This isn't really a spoiler. Just interesting conversation that ties in to some things said here. I recorded Talking Bad because they were talking to Bryan and he was asked what he thought of Walt. He basically said I don't know. I don't. I play him, I am him, and I don't want to judge him, I just want to live him. In the past you used to like the main character but not so anymore. I don't think "do you like him?" is a relevant question. The question is should you like him? Do you care? Are you split?

Very true. He is an incredible actor and has done one hell of a job with that character. Now I need to shut up and go to bed. I have no idea how I am still up, pondering BB.
