I posted in the normal hair coloring thread- but I wanted to know what you guys think about highlights and your experience with them?
Plus, how badly did it ruin your curl pattern?
thx

I had highlights three times, but they've grown out now, so I have two-toned hair. They didn't have a bad effect on my hair or curl pattern, but then it might depend on thickness. My hair is mega mega thick and can take a beating. It was a bit dry, but conditioning like normal spruced it up again.
I did find that when the bleach was left on for longer, it had more of an effect, obviously, but it still wasn't anything terrible.

I got highlights twice, both times were thanks to my mom convincing me to, she has this dream of my having wavy hair which is never going to happen, but I've regretted both times ever since. It might have just been me being paranoid, but it made my hair much straighter and more frizzy, and just generally killed it. I hated it. I have bleached the ends of my hair in order to dye it however, it's pretty great. I did loose a lot of hair for the first few days, I dyed about five inches and whenever I touched it I'd get little tiny chunks of blue hair all over my hands, but it stopped and didn't really look much different. I'd recommend it to anyone just to check out and see if they want to change their hair color. Worst thing to happen is just chop a few inches off at the bottom

I have highlights and they look horrible when my hair is straight. When my hair is straight it is a lot lighter. I used sun glitz ash blonde and it looks that way when it's wet when is Straight it's like really really blonde. I've
use a highlighter kit before that and my hair was more blonde but it didn't look that bad when it was straight it looked a lot better. And was a lot cheaper but it's all just really a learning experience ImageUploadedByCurlTalk1389300977.420929.jpg

Mine look different shades curly and straight like jaybabeex3 said.

Honestly, I wish I never did it. The weeks after were so depressing lol, I try not to think about it now because it's annoying. I spent ages growing my hair for it to loosen my curl pattern and damage my hair. I'm going to let it grow out some more, then I'll have to chop it off :-( that's what made me want to try out this while CG thing to. Now, I've got my normal curly hair, then I've got these coloured bits that just look wavy, it takes effort to blend them in if I want to have it down.

I was really silly and did it spur of the moment though, but if you plan ahead you can avoid what happened to me.
Loads of people prepare by doing loads of strengthening and moisturising treatments in the weeks leading up to it, so their hair can be as healthy as possible.
If you already have damage, going over it with all the bleach and colour is the worst thing you can do.
Mine might get a bit better because the curl has kind of looked a bit better the past month or 2, but I don't know.

Anyway, just be careful so you don't regret it later on. Good luck.

Try the vinegar rinse if you are worried about your curl pattern. About a year and a half ago I got pressured into texturizing my hair (which was pretty stupid bc it was only In for 5 min)and it made my curls soo ugly and I couldn't even add products . I literally lost all curls, I applied vinegar throughout my hair and left it in til I couldn't smell it and co washed. Works wonders

I will definitely try this! Anything I can do that might get my curl back, I'll try.
*sigh* the things us women do, then we complain later lol... Ah well, live and learn I guess.
