shea moisture style milk?

I have been trying for the past 6 months or so to follow the Deva Rules for my curls. I recently got a deva cut and was talking with the lady about my routine.
She was not happy to find I was using the shea moisture style milk. Said it was not water soluble and was leaving buildup in my hair. I do like the way it feels in my hair though. Doesn't leave me feeling like I have a head full of hairspray, which is usually what happens with other style gels.
Is what she said true about the milk? Can anyone recommend something that I might like better that is deva approved.

The Shea moisture curl enhancing style milk is cg friendly. It has a lot of oils & butter that can build up, but it rinses right out. I use it as well & love it.

Rather it is silicone/sulfate free. It has certified organic ingredients.

Shea butter can build up on some people, but nothing a gentle lowpoo won't get out. SM products are well loved around here and yes CG-friendly

Thanks for the advice everyone. Can anyone recommend anything that is just a bit stronger. Most days I am ok with the SH but I would like something that can give me a stronger curl hold that still leaves my hair soft looking and to the touch.

Try mixing a hard hold gel WITH it. Something like Deva UDG or AIF. Increase amount until you get a nice
Balance.

You can even use the sm milk with a light hold gel for no crunch & it works great.

Just because something is CG doesn't mean it can't build up. It has butters and oils so yeah it has potential to build up. If that happens just cleanse a little bit sooner than you normally do and then you're good to go. Your stylist is just concerned that if you don't cleanse often then your hair will get dry.

If you low poo often it shouldn't be a problem. It really depends on your hair. I can't co-wash shea butter out, I have to low poo. Have you ever tried to wash it off your hands? I'm a soap maker and use it often in my bars. I usually have to use my dish liquid to get it off my hands. I can see where your stylist is coming from, but I wouldn't say don't use it because of that, unless you are strictly cowashing.

Deva stylists never like stuff that isn't a deva product! Shea moisture is fine. I usually lie and say I like seva and go home and redo my hair lolz.

Just low poo and you should be good.

I use the SM milk all the time, and don't find that it builds up for me. I don't low poo often at all. If you don't think it builds up, then don't worry about it. You know your hair better than she does.
