Blow drying straight

Let me preface this by saying that I never ever straighten my hair, so I'm sure doing it once in a while won't hurt. I blow dried it straight using the tension method, and cool air in the hope of reducing possible damage. Anyway, my question is, how on earth am I supposed to straighten the hair at the back of my head? There's a wave at the nape of my neck that wouldn't go away. Do other people have to use a straightener on that part? Hopefully my problem makes sense. Thanks so much.
