How many hours of sleep do you get?

JosephineJosephine Posts: 14,175Registered Users
And is it enough? Apparently 7 hours consistently is not enough for me. I don't nap during the day. Even if I could nap, there isn't any time. (excluding weekends)

I don't get the same amount of sleep each day, some days I get about 3 to 4 hours and a few times a week I might get 8.

When I was your age, I needed a minimum of 9 most nights. If I had less than 9, I could do it or two nights and then I needed to catch up. I remember this well because I went to the doctor a few times complaining about being tired (and therefore cranky) all the time. Some people just need more sleep. Try going to bed earlier, if possible, and getting all your stuff ready for work the night before so you can sleep later in the morning.

Now that I'm older, I am okay with 7 but I try to get 8 if I can. I'm a night owl so that's tough.

I usually get 7-8 during the week and 8-10 on the weekends. I do feel best getting around 8 hours per night. I'm a night owl but I don't have to get up til 8 during the week and can usually sleep as late as I want on the weekends.

I aim for 7 but I usually get 5-6 hours. My cat disturbs my sleep most of the time as she usually gets up around 5 and demands her breakfast. I don't need to get up till 6:45. Sometimes after feeding her I'm able to get back to sleep, but others times, it doesn't happen. And no, the amount I get is not enough.

I get maybe 5 hours. I'm up and down 2-3xs going to the bathroom. I really need to cut down on my water consumption. Example: I went to bed last night at 10:30. I was up 3xs until 1:30. My alarm went off at 5:00. I hit snooze until 5:30. Yes, I'm tired. I do need more sleep. Must.find.solution.

It really, really varies for me - btwn 4 and 9 hrs per night.

There was a time when I was fine w about 6 but that's no longer the case. I think I should probably start to take a mutivitamin ever day and extra B vitamins.

I can't imagine healthy, young adults needing or wanting to take naps on a regular basis! LOL

That sounds like a medical problem. You might want to talk to your doctor about that.

    Between 5-9.

I don't feel a difference either way because I don't sleep well. I probably only sleep 3-4 hours a night.

Around 7 during the work week, 8-9 on the weekend. I need about 8 consistently. I also get up several times a night to use the bathroom (my Dr seems unconcerned, all my blood panels and glucose levels are fine).

ETA I nap most Saturday and Sunday afternoons

I've always loved naps even when I was younger! And not cat naps either. A full on 1 to 2 hour nap on a rainy afternoon. Heaven.
And at my age it's not at all unusual to get up a couple times a night to pee. I go right back to sleep tho.

Yes, some people don't believe in catchup sleep but it works for me. I've been getting 7 hours every night for a while. If i had a few good nights in between i think 7 would be okay. I wish I didn't need so much, theres so little time left over to myself.

I also don't have to get up until 8. But it's hard for me to get to bed before 1, before midnight is a miracle and requires a lot of planning.

No but when I was younger, I couldn't take naps either. I don't consider myself that young now. My bf is able to take naps, even at work (powernaps). I wish I could because it is better to get up earlier to get certain things accomplished and then take naps to go on with the rest of the day. If i don't get a good nights sleep, my whole day is basically ruined and no fun for me. Problem with naps is that I have a hard time falling asleep, especially with daylight out.

My version of a 'nap' is if i'm extremely exhausted from staying up the night before. And then I sleep for a few hours and get up then just sleep through the night.

I'm all over the map. I go to bed between 11-1 and get up between 6-8. Always seems the nights I go to sleep earlier, are followed by the mornings I can sleep in. Tuesday night we went to the drive in, so I got to sleep about 3:30 and had to be up at 6:30. Worked an 11 hour day, but was in bed last night by 10:30, and slept till 8:30.

6-7 is ideal, less or more and I tend to feel a little out of it.

Another who LOVES naps!!!! TVTroplois used to play Golden Girls in the afternoon and I'd time my nap for when they were on if I was off

I only need 5 to recharge but my circadian rhythm usually will do 6 or 7. If I go to bed at midnight I'm usually up by 6 or 7 in the morning. Working a 3rd shift job this summer is how I discovered I only require 5 to feel refreshed and function.

I am a miserable sleeper. There is no way I can regulate due to my swing shifts so I normally get 5-6 hours. I sometimes manage to get 7-8. That's what I am aim for, and if I get close, I am happy.

I recently read a sleep study about oversleeping. It said the proverbial 7-9 was all anyone needed. Of course your body might need more or less, at different times/ages, but it said people who oversleep often run into serious health risks as well. You body slowly diminishes while you sleep your life away, and you always feel the need to sleep more. I was emailing it to my friend. We are exact opposites. He thinks he can't live without 11 hours minimum, and often sleeps 18+ on his days off. I would die. I can't lay in the bed that long.

** I thought of that because he often has mini breakdowns about only getting 9 or 10 hours, and I laugh at him ;)

I have no problems sleeping for long periods of time. On the weekends if I can, I would love to sleep 12 hours but when I go to bed really late after drinking I can't sleep in the mornings.

I got only 5 hours last night. And feeling it. Urgh.
  • Fifi.GFifi.G Posts: 15,490Registered Users
I wish I could. Once or twice a year I might get 10, and I am beside myself.

When I sleep till I wake up, I consistently sleep 10 hours. With my job, I get to do that about 4 nights a week. The other days, I'm in different time zones and my body clock is on it's own schedule and I typically have to get up between 3-4am and it's impossible to go to bed early enough to get enough sleep but I try to get at least 6!
  • PoPo Posts: 2,607Registered Users
I can't imagine sleeping for more than 9 hours! I get a headache if I lay down too long. I did stay in the bed for 15 hours once (last weekend) and it was awesome! I only slept 8 and read the rest of the time.

I get 5 hours of sleep on weekdays, unfortunatetly. I wake up naturally on weekends after 6-8 hours, it just depends. Five hours is definitely not enough for me, but I feel rested on the weekends when I wake up on my own.

I try to lay down in the 10 oclock hour and be asleep by 11. i wake up at 7. It is just under the amount of sleep I need. I seem to need almost 8 hours.

I take naps at lunch when I can. Not really anymore now that I have a puppy to take care of and go home to see.

On the weekends I go to sleep between 11 and 12 until about 8 to 9 in the morning.

And I wake up around 3-4 in the morning no matter what just to be awake.
