Hi Everyone,

I started the CG method a few months ago and I am ready for a haircut and I am confused about the curly haircut. The idea of cutting it dry, am I supposed to have anything in it when I get it cut? What should I look for in a stylist and What should I ask for? I can't find a curly stylist anywhere in my neighborhood so I am going in completely blind, If anyone could help that would be great

All I know is you should go in with your hair styled so they can see how it should look. Ask if they have experience and if they are familiar with CG. if not find out if they are open to you bringing your own products and be very specific. If you aren't comfortable at any point speak up!

Welcome! There is a salon reviews section on the main NC site, some people do travel quite a long way for a curly specialist cut but the results can last many months without needing to be redone. The problem with regular stylists used to straight hair is you will be the 'blind leading the blind', they will want to do a regular wet cut or at least damp down your hair so they can pull it into straight lines because that is what they are trained to do at college.

You are supposed to rock up with your hair styled as you usually wear it, they can see how it falls, which bits are straighter or curlier etc during the consultation. There are videos on YouTube of curly cuts at Devachan, the Ouidad salon and a few other places, you might watch those to see how confident you are or maybe ask your stylist to watch a couple. There are also a lot of before and after shots on the Curly Girl book and Scott Musgrave Facebook pages.

Some of us here cut our own hair because we cannot find anyone we trust to restyle or microtrim. There are videos on YouTube and advice in the Curly Girl book itself.
