?'s about Honey, Shea Butter, & Coconut Oil

I know these are three really random products, but I have been hearing a lot of people say good things about each of these. For those of you that use either honey, shea butter, or coconut oil, how exactly do you use them? Do you wash with them, use them as styling products.....
Thanks! I'm dying to try them. :D

    Hello

I haven't messed about much with coconut oil as i've heard it can make your curls more elongated but if i did it would probably be as part of a deep treatment.

Honey can be used in lots of different ways, adding a blob to conditioner will help with curl definition and give you nice shiny curls. You can also do a deep moisture treatment by mixing honey with aloe vera and your conditioner... heat the mixture in a microwave for a few seconds and slather on wet hair, wrap your hair up and leave for about half an hour (this is known as snowys moisture treatment.. SMT... invented by a girl on the longhaircommunity forum and by all accounts its fanastic). People also do honey rinses by mixing a few tablespoons of honey with water for your final rinse. People also use it with some aloe vera as a gel / curl defininer after thier final rinse.

Shea butter is my altimate God send!! I use it as a leave in and it gives me well defines, bouncy curls... i've quit using gel since i found this stuff!! it doesn't hold as such but because my curls are so moisturised and free to springy i don't feel i need any hold! I'm about to order some unrefined stuff but at the moment i scrunch Shea Moisture Shea Butter Leave-in conditioner into my hair, towel dry a little and thats it! Heres what it looks like... /home/leaving?target=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.healthlifeline.com%2Fitem.html%3FPRID%3D1001662" class="Popup

I also srunch a little in when my hair is dry and it gives me an extra bit of clumping. And when i tie my hair back, i smooth a very tiny amount over my hair to catch any frizzies

I use coconut oil as a leave in. It helps with keeping the moisture in and calming the frizz before I put on my gel.

can anyone tell me what aloe vera is used for, can it be used as a gel for styling or is it used for conditioning.

Also the shea butter, I'm imagine this to look like a lump of butter ( I'm new to all this).

I 've started using a tiny amount of leave in ( 1 part honey /10 parts water ), this gives me the volume I've been after and a few more curls (not enough), and so far no build up.

I'm now looking for something that will add definition and shine.

    Can anyone help

I'll be watching for the Grecian, thanks!

You can use aloe for conditioning. I have it in both my leave in and my gel. Some can use aloe with a little honey as their gel.
Shea is solid but melts with the heat of your hands. Generally it's in a tub.

    Thanks Medusahair

Where can I buy these, drugstore, supermarket or health food store.
    I live in the UK.

I'm not in the UK but here I buy it at Walmarts, the health food store, drugstores. Be sure it's just aloe though. Usually I can find it with first aid for sunburns

I just washed my hair and put a blob of aloe vera in and plopped for 1 hr.

Result -Hair not too good. Less curl and a bit poofy. What did I do wrong.

argh... sorry for feeding your PJs!! I hope the people that have brought the shea moisture leave in on my rec like it

bibbles... I'm not too sure what you did wrong, i had very mixed results with aloe as a leave in so i just use mine in deep treatment mixtures now and love using it that way. Are you on CG? Whats your hair type? Maybe it doesn't quite give you enough hold? Also (sorry to throw another product in) i have read posts before where people have used aloe mixed with a drop of jojoba oil and had good results... the jojoba can help de-poof a little if the aloe isn't enough by itself. Sorry i can't help more but i kind of gave in experimenting with aloe as a gel on wet hair, i did get some good results though using a tiny amount on dry hair.

I've added some pics of my hair for anyone interested... they show how fine and wimpy my curls are but also how spirally the leave-in makes them!

I can speak about coconut oil.

I've used it in various ways. I have blended it with both rinse out and leave in conditioners for more moisture.

I have left it on my ends at night for a protective coating.

I have used it as a DT.

My most common use for it is for defrizzing after my hair is finished. I graze it and/or scrunch it on any surface frizz and it seems to work for me. I have a little tub with me so I can use it during the day if I need to.

Many seem to find that it elongates their curls, but I haven't seen too much of this myself.

    Thank you!

I ran out of [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Aloeba-Daily-Conditioner-p-104.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-aloeba-daily-conditioner]aloeba[/buylink] so i'm using Elucence till my next lot arrives (thats the only problem with it... i use loads), I'm so fickle, i love something and then my PJ starts calling, I should know by now that if it ain't broken don't try to fix it!! There are somethings i keep going back to and [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Aloeba-Daily-Conditioner-p-104.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-aloeba-daily-conditioner]aloeba[/buylink] is one of them!

Actually I was asking about [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Aloeba-Daily-Conditioner-p-104.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-aloeba-daily-conditioner]Aloeba[/buylink] because you mentioned the other leave in you use. I was wondering if the other leave in is better? In a different way I mean.

I understand perfectly about the PJ! I have the products I love dearly but if something is similar in ingredients that I like I have to try it! It's like a law I swear, it's not me

LOL... lushaholic... 2 years ago i'd happily of chopped my curls off for you but i've grown quite attached to them now!! You're hair is stunning too! You always want what you don't have though eh!?

I see what you mean now Medusa.. If i use [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Aloeba-Daily-Conditioner-p-104.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-aloeba-daily-conditioner]aloeba[/buylink] as a leave-in it'll be as an overnight treat, i love how it moisturises my hair but it also makes it look a little greasy. For day-time help with banishing frizz and encouraging curls i use the shea moisture stuff! Hope thats answered your question!

I add a dab of honey to my conditioner, leave it in for a minute, then rinse. I do this maybe twice a week to add shine, and for extra conditioning. Can't do it every shampoo like many of the women here do -my hair gets weighed down easily. I've wanted to try coconut oil as a leave-in, but again my hair gets weighed down so easily. I've read about all the benefits of oiling, but jojoba oil did nothing for my hair.

Ladies who use coconut: do you think it would be too heavy for finer hair types (I think mine is 2b or 2a - it seems to lose volume every day)? I was thinking monoi oil may be better for me.

I still love the stuff but after a couple of weeks it's building up. Anybody have a clarifier to recommend that isn't too drying?

A couple of years ago I tried shea butter, I melted some and added it directly to two bottles of inexpensive COs (and maybe to a hand lotion as well) but I may have added too much because the results weren't good, after that I didn't experiment with it anymore and forgot about it for so long that next time I found it had gone bad, so I still don't know if in the right amount it may have worked well for me. This just reminded me that back in December or January while browsing through the beauty isles at Wal-mart I noticed a product (or rather about 5 varieties of it) on the skin care section that I was quite tempted to get - but didn't because I'd just bought several hair products elsewhere. It was JR Watkins Shea Butter and it was actually priced at least a couple of dollars less than at this site. This cream is really meant for skin but the ingredient list sounded great for hair as well, I think it has dimethicone far down the list but that is one of the lighter 'cones anyway and I think when it's mixed with so many oils it's even less of a problem. I would've gladly bought either the Lavender or Lemon Cream because they smelled great, maybe next time...

I have used honey mainly mixed with FOTEAVG (Fruit of The Earth 100% Aloe Vera Gel) for hold and also in a CO for extra moisture. And every year during the short cold spell here I do at least one coconut oil overnight treatment; I like it because it's easy to remove with just CO and it leaves my hair shiny and moisturized. A couple of weeks ago I dug out my Organic Root Stimulator Locs & Twists Gel (which contains coconut milk) and I loved how it moisturized my hair, the only problem is that it has very little hold so in a few hours my curls got fuzzy. But the next day I just re-wet my hair, sprayed Suave liquid gel over it, combed through and scrunched while upside-down and was able to go for 2 more days with pretty good curls. Next time I want to try mixing it with the FOTEAVG and see how that goes.
