Aveda Flax Seed Aloe Gel?

kaykrekaykre Posts: 314Registered Users
Has anyone tried this? It's this one: Aveda Flax Seed/ Aloe Strong Hold Sculpturing Gel - NaturallyCurly.com

I realize it has a water soluble cone (I've been incorporating a few with no issue:eek:). I've been wanting to try something with flax and I don't really like the whole DIY option. I was going to try Jessicurl RR but I've found I can't really use mag sulfate for more than one consecutive day. :-(

I tried it when I was first on the boards. It wasn't memorable. After reviewing the ingredients, I would never try it now because of the ingredients.

aqueous (water, aqua purificata, purified) extracts: linum usitatissimum (linseed) seed extract, aloe barbadensis leaf, alcohol denat., pvp/va copolymer, polyquaternium-11, hydroxyethylcellulose, peg-40 hydrogenated castor oil, oryzanol, tocopherol, citrus grandis (grapefruit) seed extract, peg-12 dimethicone, polyquaternium-7, glycerin, fragrance (parfum), geraniol, linalool, citronellol, maltodextrin, diazolidinyl urea.

If you have issues with drying, you want to stay away from alcohol denat. I wouldn't use it because of the polyquats. The con is "peg," means it's water soluble for most people.

If it's water soluable it's not big deal to me. It's CG as far as I'm concerned.

    It's the alcohol I wouldn't use...and the polyquat.

Oh and the aloe, but that's a skin allergy thing.

See, I'm wondering if the polyquat would be problematic... I've used a lot of Deva stuff (full of polyquats) with not build up issues. However, alcohol denat is drying for me but when I use a lot of leave in it doesn't seem to cause an issue.

Aveda Flax Seed Aloe Gel has been one of my staples for years, along with the spray in conditioner (Brilliant and Curessence when it was still made) for they are great with toning down my frizz. Since I am a shampooer (though sulfate free), I do not mind the cones in small dozes.

I'm sort of the same... I use a cocamidopropyl betaine based low poo so small amounts of cones (or water soluble ones) don't seem to be problematic for me at all.

I haven't tried the Aveda due to the alcohol, but I picked up the Max Green Alchemy styling gel at TJ Maxx the other day and have been loving it! No quats, alcohol, or glycerin. Has protein. All natural, cruelty free.

Purified Water, Aqueous Herbal Extract (Glycyrrhiza Glabra* (licorice) Root, Tussilago Farfara+ (coltsfoot) Leaf, Achillea Millefolium* (yarrow), Salix Alba+ (willow), Tabebuia Impetiginosa+ (pau díarco), Arctium Lappa* (burdock) Root, Berberis Aquifolium (mahonia), Calendula Officinalis* (calendula), Equisetum Arvense* (horsetail), Urtica Dioica* (nettle), dehydroxanthan gum (plant derived styling agent), Hydrolysed Soy Protein, Aloe Barbadensis* (aloe vera) Leaf, Parfum (fragrance of plant origin), Panthenol (pro vitamin B5), Leptospermum Petersonii (lemon tea tree), Melaleuca Alternifolia* (tea tree), Lavandula Angustifolia* (lavender), Pelargonium Graveolens* (geranium), Rosemarinus officinalis* (rosemary). *Organic + Wildcrafted

Ingredient Attributes: silicone free, paraben free, organic, glycerin free

I don't care for the scent but it dissipates.

Sorry, I know you didn't ask about this, but I thought I would share.
