Help with frizz! I've tried everything!

I have 2C-3A hair and when I first wash it, (L'Oreal evercurl) it looks fine, but hours later, it frizzes up so much at the top layers!

This happens with every product I try! I rinse with cold water, plop with a t-shirt, and apply a gel cream when it's fairly dry. What am I doing wrong?!

P.S
I just purchased the new curly girl handbook and I'm looking to see where they talk about this problem. Anyone know where they specifically talk about frizz?!

Mine is 3a and I also battle frizz as the day goes on. So frustrating! For me, I'm thinking it's due to lack of product/uneven distribution. This morning I put a bunch of Suave Naturals Coconut in my hair as a LI and then followed that with a good helping of HETT gel, scrunched, plopped, scrunched again, and air dried. I thought it might have been too much product but my hair looks SO much better today!

I haven't read the CG handbook yet, but I am following it (my deva stylist told me all the basics)

My suggestion would be to use a HARD hold gel and a LOT of it. You can always adjust the amount of gel once you get the hang of using it. I live in a windy area, and my hair is prone to frizz anyway. What I'm looking for is hard hold with a lot of crunch. If your hair isn't really crunchy by the time it dries, you probably either need a harder hold gel or should use more of it. I use a combination of KCCC and BRHG, dries very crunchy, and scrunches out just fine. I don't think a gel cream will have enough hold for you.

Also try pixiecurl diffusing. This helps me to maximize curl and minimize frizz.

I put my LI in upside-down, scrunch with a flour sack towel, then rake/smooth my gel (still upside-down) and scrunch again (gently but firmly). Then I plop for about 10 minutes, and pixiecurl. I get very little frizz. I use a silk sleep cap at night, and have minimal frizz for second day hair. Third day...still working on that one!

If your hair frizzes as the day goes on it might be a humectant and high dew thing. What are the dews in your city right now? Are there humectants in your stylers and leave-in products? Any glycerin? Propelyne glycol? Aloe, panthenol, sugars?

Agreed about the strong gel, I would suggest Devacurl
Products: Devacurl No-poo, Conditioner, and Ultra Defining Gel
Hair Type: Somewhere between 2C (The back of my hair) and 3A (The Front of my hair)

Been CG for about a year, still trying to figure out my hair :)

You didn't mention your products. But I would try using a leave-in and a gel like LA Looks Sports. Nothing works as well on my hair as LA Looks. I am currently getting great results with my homemade flax seed gel. If I don't use a gel I will have the major frizzies.

Yep, hard hold gel. I recently started using LA sport and it's amazing. My hair gets really frizzy, especially in high dews, and I was about ready to give up on CG until I started using LASG. I cleanse with loreal evercurl cleansing conditioner or a goats milk soap bar. I use tresemme naturals radiant volume as my rinse out, scrunching it into my hair in the shower and letting it sit for a few mins before gently rinsing with cool water. When I get out of the shower, I use a t-shirt to stop the dripping and then apply about a nickel sized amount of tresemme naturals as my leave in. I flip my head upside down and rake, then scrunch, a palmful or two of LASG through my hair. When my hair is totally dry, I scrunch out the crunch with a teeny tiny amount of Shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie. This routine is working perfectly for me in high dews, which typically enhance my curls but also enhance my insane frizz lol. I'm getting the awesome curls without the frizz now. :)

You have not mentioned a leave in conditioner and you are not applying your styler to very wet hair, CG method would have you doing both for frizz control. Be sure to consider your hair properties and dew points/ humidity when choosin ingredients and products.

I have to layer a lot of products to prevent frizz. I use a leave-in, followed by curl enhancer (jelly, cream product), scrunch in some gel, plop with Curlease towel while doing makeup, remove towel and scrunch in either CJ's CIAB or Curls Gel-les'c as a serum.

I diffuse until the curls form and they are crunchy. On really high dewpoint days, I will sometimes scrunch in another product after diffusing (Curly Kinks Whipped Cream for example) and continue diffusing.

To SOTC I love Botanical Spirits Avocado and Coconut Cream.

I don't have any problems with frizz anymore.

For second day hair I scrunch in a product before I go to bed. I pineapple and scrunch in something -my fav right now is the Komaza Coconut Pudding, but any of my curl enhancer a work well (not gel). In the morning I take the scrunchie out and gently fluff my hair. Sometimes I will scrunch in a little more coconut pudding or I will use Komaza Califia Moisture Cream for really humid days.

Every part of CGing applies to frizz, so it's throughout the book.

I think waiting until your hair is almost dry to apply gel is part of the problem. Gel should be applied to wet hair. The water in your hair will help distribute it, and is part of how it works. Your hair needs to be clumped for your curls to be visible as curls. Most people's hair will not snuggle up to other hairs, so the curls push off each other, and it just looks like frizz.

Also, if you're blow drying, make sure you're not drying your hair fully. Your hair should finish drying by air drying. That way the moisture in it will be appropriate for the dew point at the time. If it gets over dried, it will reach out for moisture in the air, and that will create frizz.
    Peace,
