devachan cut unhappy :(((

canelacanela Posts: 218Registered Users
It has been 10 years literally since I cut my hair, My 20th wedding anniversary is next week and I am going on vacation so I decided to treat myself to a trim. I emphasized to hairdresser please just a trim I don't want to lose my length. she gave me a bob from the 80s it looks horrible. She then used some products that has made my hair so hard and frizzy. the bottle said devachan but the smell was not and the texture was not either.

anyone can give me advise how to improve my hair? I know I cant get my length back but my texture is all out of whack. any deep condition ?

Oh, that's a shame. It's bad enough to get a bad haircut, but worse when you have a big event planned.

If you are not cg, I would give your hair a good shampoo and then, yes, a DT with the best product you have.

If you are cg, then do the shampoo with a good cocobetaine poo and then the DT.

If your hair is fine, you might try a protein treatment before you DT. Don't try that if your hair is coarse.

Good luck - I'm sure others will chime in to try to help.

Congrats on your 20th Wedding Anniversary!!! - and have fun. Hair is just hair in the end - it usually grows back and in the meantime - focus on the good stuff - wow - 20 years. :love4:
    2/c Coarse hair med. density.

I love all the Curl Junkie products. Still experimenting with gels and curl creams. Still hoping for 2nd day hair....

I cant believe she took off your hair....see I would have been so mad. I had my hair really long when I was a teen and my parents when to get me a trim and i said I didnt want it short, the lady cut it so short it was like a boy. It was awful. I hated it and Im so scared it will happen to me again. People have always took off way too much when I asked them not to.
but yes I would wash my hair to get the bad products out and do a deep treatment and style your hair the next day like your way.

Gonna do a clarifying cleanse and will report...oh I am so angry but the lady was just inept. Never again will I get my haircut again..I usually just cut it myself.

I would demand for my money back. If I am paying for a hair cut I better be satisfied with it or they will not get my money and if they cut off too much then they most definitely would not see me again and wouldn't recommend them to anyone

How do I post a picture here?
My hair is a mixture of 3c with a small portion of 4 a in the crown it is very spongy does not like protein, glycerin or cones. I try not to manipulate it much as it gets frizzy. The weird thing about this cut is she cut layers underneath like a crazy 80's bob. So now I look like an umbrella. She did not cut a lot around just the bottom....:hmph: ten years natural down the drain. It looks nothing like a devachan. I kept asking why she was doing that but she said it will be ok. Oh I wish I could turn back time..

When you hit reply, Under Additional Options there is an 'attach files' section. Hit 'Manage Attachment' and from there you can upload a picture. I am just curious to see what your hair looks like. Hopefully, with the right products, maybe it will look better?

Ok, you have beautiful curl formation. I can somewhat understand what you are saying with why you are unhappy. Have you washed since the cut? If so, maybe you can use your diffuser (if you have one), on low heat setting and sort of set the curls so they don't shrink as much. Or, like others have said, you can complain and get your money back!

So any suggestion ? I called she won't return my $$$she offered products other than devachan. Did a cleansing cause the texture was awful. Did some braids to see the condition of hair and it looks like she cut a huge chunk in the back randomly. She made a mistake but won't do anything

Did you pay by credit card? If so file a dispute with your credit card company. If you paid by cash, file a report with the BBB. Write her up on yelp, facebook. Take her to small claims court. Sometime threatening action will get people to give the money back. No one wants their reputation sullied.

Wow, I suggest going further with deeper action to get your money back. It seems she had no idea what she was doing involving your curls. I agree with natualyogini. Those actions should yield some result. You are a paying customer and deserve to be happy with not just experience but what you paid for.

So she said she will return $$.

    But...

Now I need to deal with my hair, ladies what products have helped you accelerate growth and moisture?

She finally admitted to using glycerin with water on the devachan bottle NOT devachan products. So....I did a homemade clarifying shampoo followed by vinegar and honey rinse and deep avocado conditioner. It is softer but still my curls forms are mess !!! Anyone have any suggestions please?!

Thank you to all those ladies giving me support, none better understands this ordeal better than a fellow curly.

Samantha curl we have similar hair, can you spell out for me the name of your products? I have no clue as to what they are. Are you glycerin sensitive too? And protein sensitive?

I am so happy she is giving you your money back! I do think, with a little tweaking, you will get that feeling of how beautiful your hair is! Maybe a hair twin?! Or hair cousin?! YAY! Well us having similar hair is a compliment. I actually loveeee protein. And glycerin is good, as long as my protein/moisture balance is good. Too much glycerin and it causes disgusting frizz! Lately, I have been loving Tresemme Naturals because it detangles pretty well. I also bought, a few days ago, Giovanni (in sig) and have been using it as my leave in. It is amazing so far. The KCCC is alright. I think, once I am done, I want to find a gel that helps bring more shrinkage. I know that sounds weird since so many curlies want to elongate, but I love tight curls! Oh yes, Coconut oil is amazing too. You should add that to a conditioner and leave it on your hair for a while.

Have you tried diffusing lightly? What about clips? You could clip the ends of your hair to elongate the curl. What kind of gel do you use?

I think we might be closely related hair wise :)
I do not use a lot of products in my hair just aloe gel and shea butter or coconut oil, or jojoba oil added to elucence leave in Been working with that for years.

I did the pins with diffuser that was the result of it so that's why I am so upset

Would you be upset if you went to another stylist to maybe shape it up more? I know that this experience might condition you to be scared to get your hair cut, but maybe if you sit down with a curly stylist and tell her what happened, what you are looking for, and so forth, you can begin to enjoy your hair.

Btw, I haven't used aloe gel, but I really want to try it. Any suggestions?

You know this stylist I went to was certified by devachan and had perfect recommendation scores here and in Angie's list? It will take a lot for me to go back to a hairdresser..it took 10 yrs before ! I think this experience cure me for life. I use the whole foods brand or try to find those with the least ingredients. Love home made flax gel & wanna try okra soon. Will be away for 3 wks so talk to you soon!

So sorry this happened. I know it's not much, but at least you DID your research before going. So it sounds like you suffered some bad luck.

I think your hair is pretty, even with an imperfect cut. You said, "It is softer but still my curls forms are mess !!!" (following your treatment). OK it sounds like your hair is improving, though, just slowly. Hang in there. It will probably be just fine in a minute. Probably just needs a little more pampering ;)

You're very welcome :) Well, recalling all the ingredients your hair doesn't like, two products that may help condition your hair well are Yes to Carrots Pampering Conditioner, and Biolage Matrix Biolage Hydrotherapy (But if you have a Sally's Beauty around you, you can buy something similar to Biolage called GVP. It's much cheaper.)

As for gel, with your product limitations, and since you like FSG, you might consider making some FSG before your trip, add a preservative to it and take it along with you. (There are threads on here about adding preservatives.)

Whoops. Unfortunately I'm not too familiar w/products in England. Maybe someone else can help. Or you might create a new thread asking this specific question.
