My barber shop experience

PortaePortae Posts: 337Registered Users
Hello ladies,
I just wanted to share my latest haircutting experience with you. Since I first went short, I have been going to a great female stylist. Well, lately I have been wanting to find a place closer to my home. The other day I saw a lady with hair similar to mine and an awesome cut. She informed me that she got it cut at a barber shop and gave me her barber's info.

Now, I've never had my cut by a barber before, so I was just a tad nervous. But, I was happy to find out that this barber works a lot on afros (as opposed to a barber who mainly does crew cuts). He used clippers instead of scissors, which I didn't think I would like. But the cut, the shape, everything came out wonderful. I also liked the atmosphere. It is an old, historic barbershop and there was a great vibe – old photos on the walls, friendly elderly barbers, little kids stopping by on their way from school to say "hi."

I've posted a few pictures in my fotki. All in all, i have to say that I greatly enjoyed my first experience at a barbershop!

Thanks for all of the kind words, you guys. My friend thinks it's too short, that I should wear it a bit fuller. What are your thoughts?

Whether I keep it this low or a bit longer, I definitely think I'm going to stick with the short hair. If I could lose a few pounds, I might try a crew cut. My boyfriend gave me the big  when I said that, but he got over the new short hair, and I'm sure he would get over a crew cut.

Caleilani– I bought the foaming milk at a local beauty supply. It's one of those places that has EVERYTHING and is typically run by Asian shopkeepers. For the past few months, however, I've been using some Paul Mitchell the Conditioner followed by a bit of Fantasia clear gel.

You really have me sold on the short look...I'm debating if I'm really ready to chop...I'm thinking like you, I might need to lose a few more pounds...I think the real short looks better when I'm a little smaller.

You must save so much money in hair products.... You have a pretty face so can carry off the super short looks. Plus, from your posts, I think you are young and have a nice figure so that too helps short hair to look more sexy on a woman, especially to men.

On you, I would favor the current length, a chin length bob or longer. I don't think you'd look good with hair down to your waist because it would detract from your pretty face and figure. But your longer hair pictures are beautiful and I am a fan of your curls.

Seems like YOU are happy with the super short look, though. So that's what matters most. Thanks for sharing with us. You look good.

Deeply Curled: Thanks for your response. I wasn't so much asking whether or not short hair looks good, but precisely what length of short hair suits my face the best.

    Portae,

Your current length is flattering; very short but looks good on you. There are some interesting ideas here too:

Thanks for the info. Portae. Those Asian shops have everything in them, shoes, etc.I'll go to one near my house and see if they have that Foaming stuff. So,you're using Paul Mitchell the Conditioner too,I use to use the generic brand from Sally's a few years ago,and it did wonders for my daughter's hair.I've been using so much stuff lately, maybe I ought to try it again,I have 5 bottles in the hair closet. You have the face to pull off any hairstyle, crew cut or whatever. :D

I find it unflattering, too short, you look better with fuller hair...

    Hey kd!

I'm not sure if we're hair twins, mainly because your curls seem looser and silkier than mine. Maybe we're hair cousins! What's your texture? Mine is more cottony than silky; I definitely need a styling product and (at this length) a little coaxing to get my curls to pop.

Your hair is gorgeous, by the way! What products are you using? What's your routine?

Thanks Portae, your hair is beautiful too. This actually my second time trying to be natural. The first time i was pregnant, after i had to the baby i had no support and no idea it was all about the products that could work for me, so i ended up perming it again.

Right now im playing with Carol's Daughter Hair Milk; Tui Leave in ( which i proably won't buy again) it's okay but i know there are better products.

Im using GF Curl and Shine Leave in; Aveda Be Curly; IC Fantasia Gel

Im CO washing with Suave Naturals and Vo5 Passion Fruit

I totally air dry; Im very serious about condtioners; i just found Redkin Hair Butter Treatment, and i love it! I put it on and sat under the dryer for about 45mins and slept in it and my hair was so soft and moist.

I really love it. Not everyone can pull of short hair and you're doing it.
