Weird super coarse black hairs?

Hello! My hair is 2c/3a and I find random super coarse black hairs on my head usually near my part. These strands are usually super curly (3cish) and they are like frizz. I notice that if I pull one out of my scalp, it has a black-ish bulb thing on the top instead of the normal white with my other hair. I always have an urge to pull them out, but I try not to. It's just so hard not to! Why do I have these strands and how do I keep myself from pulling them out?

Haha- I have them, too. And everyone in my family- my niece calls them "witch hairs." Maybe everyone has them!

I have them too. I think they're just genetic, my mother has thick, coarse black hair and my father has fine Shirley Temple curls, so I got a little of both.

I thought about pulling them out, but then they got so numerous there was no way to. But when I first thought about it, I had to think, if I pull this out, what will grow back in it's place? It could come in gray, or straight, or it could not come back in at all and I'd get a bald spot where I pulled lol. My family has a history of alopecia so I avoid pulling hair at all costs.

Maybe you make a "swear jar" but call it a hair jar, so every time you pull a hair, you pay a dollar?

Near the back of my head, I have a black patch of hair. My mom always called it a hair birthmark, hahaha. The black hair was much more course than the rest of my hair too, and the strands were thick! I color my hair, so I never see them anymore obviously. As far as how you can avoid pulling the hairs, you just have to accept that it's a part of you!

My hair is coarse but I have seen the opposite, I've seen faint, fine hair at times. I think they're usually around the perimeter of my hairline.

By the way if you're pulling it out and it does not have a white tip, it's because this strand was not yet ready to fall on its own. Strands with the white tips are hair (in the telogen phase) that shed naturally with the root, so it's not abnormal that the strands you're yanking do not have the root. Don't pull them, it's still your hair.

I'm glad so many other people have the same problem! Your responses encouraged me to stop pulling them out. Thanks!

From time to time, I've found one of those shedding. I always thought that one hair was magically soaking up more conditioner than the others :goofy: I like the idea of witch hairs ;)

I totally have those too, and I always thought it was damage. I also have some random baby-fine wispies. Type 2 hair is loco.
