Overconditioned & Protein sensitive

nsabaternsabater Posts: 53Registered Users
I realized a little while ago that my hair may be overconditioned, so after looking at some posts, I decided to do a protein treatment. I was afraid at first because I am protein sensitive, and have been avoiding it in my hair products for years. I tried Aphogee protein treatment, and I did notice less breakage, but still my curls were lifeless. A couple of weeks later I did a mayo and yogurt combo, but still no difference. My hair is not completely straw like, just a tiny bit drier, and I still have lifeless curls. I don't know what else to do. I'm afraid to co wash and continue the overconditioned state. Do I keep doing protein treatments? Please help!

If you could do the Aphogee treatment and your hair didn't get hard and break, I don't think you're as protein sensitive as you think--if at all.

Best thing you can do is learn your hair properties. Here's a link to help /home/leaving?target=http%3A%2F%2Flivecurlylivefree.com%2Fcurly-hair-basics%2F" class="Popup It's the best way to choose ingredients/products. Look for people with similar properties and see what they use. It's the best place to start.

You'll also have to adjust to weather/season--amount of humidity in the air or dewpoint. When the dewpoint is high, you need to treat your hair differently then when it's really low.

Agree with KathyMack you have wrongly diagnosed yourself as protein sensitive or your hair properties have changed, protein sensitive people cannot use Aphogee.

Yoghurt and mayonaise is next to useless, treatments designed by people who don't understand basic biochemistry. Denatured milk proteins and egg proteins are likely too large to penetrate, the oil in most mayonnaise is usually a polyunsaturated vegetable oil which again cannot penetrate. The only food with a useful amount of hydrolysed protein is gelatin. The oils that can penetrate are rich in lauric acid or oleic acid - coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil, palm kernel oil for example.

If you are still frightened of protein the obvious is not to leap in with both feet and do another hardcore protein treatment but instead to use a daily conditioner that contains a modest amount of hydrolysed protein.

Protein Treatment is the best method to put shine to the hair. It smooths the cuticle of hair and creates stronger hair. If you are doing this treatment. it will help you not harm.So don't hesitate and also consult to hair stylist also.
